geneepi - "Yes." I've seen sub $200 satin jacks and sub $250 Natural Outlaw E's. All users, well loved but ready for more and still holding a factory lifetime warranty. The secondary market prices you see are based on high demand. One of the best deals going are direct from Jerry et al when purchasing at shows, new orders, or at an Extravaganza.
Another one to consider are the outstanding deals offered by the other "separate businesses" in Wauseon like Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard knives. Both Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard have a new 6" model and are available now: The Swamp has the Mischief (M6) made with a micarta handle and SR101 (proprietary 52100) for about $170. The Scrap Yard has the Scrapper 6 made with a resiprene-c handle and a SR77 (proprietary S7) blade for about $90.
Both of these knives are awesome deals that you won't regret. Many of us came to Busse thru the
gateway drugs of SRKW or SYK.
You're in St. Louis. If you go looking used and need an idea of the general feel and size of a particular blade, let me know. I may or may not have the one in question, but if I do there might be a local opportunity to check it out and get a first hand idea of the size/weight.
Welcome to the addiction.
(BTW - The lovely lady in my avatar is in homage to the venerable Amy-0. One of the "faces" of Busse and the purveyor of INFI. One of her many duties is filtering thru the Extravaganza emails to see if you scored. My point? Don't expect to meet the cutie in the picture if I meet to show you a blade - I'm nearly 40, 6'3" and 225lbs. No, not a Janet Reno lookalike! Though my name is Stacey, I am a guy!)
