Stupid questions on zebrawood

I just picked up a 2"x12"x12" chunk of zebrawood. I want to cut it up on my table saw but I have a question about orienting the stripes. The stripes of course run lengthwise with the grain. If you want the stripes to run from the back of the handle to the bottom of the handle you'd have to cut it so the grain runs across the shortest width of the scales, a very weak and brittle cross section. But that doesn't really matter once the scales are on the handle right? Can zebrawood be stabilized?
Any tips on working this wood are appreciated, from a search of the archives it appears all you have to do is buff the handles. -Guy Thomas

I've never used zebra wood myself Guy. Probably the best thing to do is cut a pair of scales and send em off for stabilizing if you're not set up for that. Not much advise I know but it's about all I can give you.
