After shutting down my PC last night, I selected the new AG Russell catalogue as my bedtime reading fare. On page 8 of that rag, I found something called the SLB. That acronmym is for Stout Little Blade, made by Al Mar Knives.
Only has AUS8 steel, and a liner lock, but at least in appearance, it rates it's name. Should it be made in similar fashion to the SR2K, I think it would deserve the name chosen.
I think it is cute! I see it as being a bit smoother in outline than most of the Spyderco offerings, probably because of no need to account for the thumbhole.
While I am a steel snob of sorts, I have to admit that I have had good experiences with AUS6. But, admittedly, I don't use my knives very often or hard. I love it's stain resistance, particularly if it is finished fairly brightly. My LUS locks up extremely well, and has a fairly large pivot for it's size. I also have a positive bias towards Zytel, largely due to the 15-18 years of ownership of a Gerber LST. I carried that knife for all but a bit more than 2 years of that time period. It can be cleaned up to look almost new. The FRN's make many people think "plastic." Plastic = bad to most such folks. I guess my introduction was to "unbreakable" Zytel, which it has proven to be. Again, admittedly, mine has not been subjected to much harsh use. If I had a better memory, I could probably recall some of the times when I have used the LST strenuously, but I don't. That's why I give a 3 year span to the length of time I've owned it.
Anyhow, thought you'd be interested in the new Al Mar cutie.
Edited to change the B for Blade in the knife name from K and Knife which I typed originally. Another evidence of my feeble memory. Sorry if I confused anyone who was led astray in the few minutes before I discovered my error.
