I recently picked up this Collins axe head in the Connecticut style. Is this actually a hatchet head? I feel as though its a tad bit heavy and suspect it could be a boys axe head. Any help would be appreciated.

Another question, any tips on getting wood out of the eye of an axe head? Need to replace a handle on my other hatchet...

Looks like the handle is too small for that eye. Beats me on if its a boys axe head. What's its weight?

Use a drill to bore out the old handles from the eye.

Thanks everyone! I'm having a hell of a time with these things. If anyone would want to trade a Fiskars 14" for two hatchet heads let me know....

I'd buy one just to make that trade with you! That Connecticut pattern Collins is worth 10 fiskars, IMO. You should keep it!

Looks to me more like a half axe then a hatchet.

Something best used with a 18" to 24" handle.

Unless the hand in the the photo is fairly small.

A good camping/BOB tool.

I really like a half axe as a do all survival type tool.
