Style PS Wire Cutter Burrs

I recently used my wire cutters on my Leatherman Style PS to cut some wire, and the wire was apparently hardened, because a rather large burr formed on the edge of the cutters. Now they stick when they spring back open. Has anyone else experienced this? How would you go about fixing this?

I would personally file it until flat to fix it. Depending on how bad it is and how much you take off it might not function like it once did.

depends on what you have as far as tools. you could try to file it out, clean it up with some sand-paper, peen it out with a pin-punch, or try to burnish it out with a chisel or something.
I've never mashed a set of cutters enough to cause them to stick any more than a minor annoyance.

Because you asked, I assume you are unsure of your ability to restore the cutters, so I recommend sending your PS to Leatherman for a warranty repair. They will fix or replace it, so if you have any sentiment attached to the thing, make sure you specify return of the original. Some years ago, I was in the same position (Super Tool), did a poor job of filing down the deformation, finally sending it in. One week later, it was returned in perfect condition. I think you can expect the same kind of service from them.

I would not be so sure. Wire cutter damage is actually one of the things they DO NOT cover under warranty. You got very lucky they replaced your Super Tool. I would not expect them do always do the same. Its a gamble if they will replace anything because of wire cutter damage as they consider it abuse or improper use of the tool.

All I can say is that I sent them my Super Tool, they returned the same but with the wire cutter dressed. According to anecdotal evidence on this and other knife/multi-tool forums and my own experience, Leatherman will take in anything in any condition, even due to obvious abuse on the part of the owner, whoever that is, regardless of what their stated policy might be. Send them a dead dog and they will probably return a refurbished MUT (close enough ;) ). I once sent them the mangled wreckage of a PST II owned by my son, who is very hard on his possessions (good fellow otherwise) and they sent it back in like new condition. Too bad I'm not so hard on my tools. :D

I'm not saying they will not replace it. All i'm saying is wire cutter damage is not covered under their warranty so if they decided not to do anything about it I would not be surprised. They will most likely replace it for the OP though. Especially since it is a inexpensive tool.

To the OP just_the_doctor, please send your Style PS to Leatherman warranty and report back. We can then verify that about their warranty service, I was right all along. :D

I never said they would not replace it. They most likely will. I just said I would not be surprised if they did not as wire cutter damage is not covered under their warranty.
