Ended up buying the ZT 0450. You can still post on this thread if you want though :)

Hey guys,

I have become pretty interested in flippers lately. Know any good ones? I'd really love to hear which cool knives you guys have used or know of :)

My Requirements:
Durable
A blade less than 3.5 inches (Not as important)
Pocket Clip (IMPORTANT)
Blade thickness 3mm+
One hand opening and closing
NO CHEAP PLASTIC
Things I like:
Bearings
Smooth Flipping
Fun to play with

Thanks for the help!

Boker+ Mini CF Kwaiken (~$119).
Carbon Fiber scales, light switch flipper on bearings (IKBS).
The full size is 3.5" and also is a great knife.
Check them out.

Might want to look at the Massdrop WE/Ferrum Forge offerings. They are VERY well priced for what you get!! The new one is right at 3.4 inch blade if I remember right, but the drop may have ended, not sure.

Another that is very well priced for what you get is the Real Steel Sea Eagle. I just ordered my second one from KC two days ago. Action and lockup are insane for the price, steel is good with a surprisingly great HT, ergonomics are good, blade geometry is great for cutting(not prying). I recommend the carbon fiber scales. I just ordered the CF one because the G10 scale one I have now has the same texture of the Spyderco G10, which is rough and chews up your pocket if you don't sand it down. I dremeled or sanded all of my pocket clip area when it comes to those rough under the pocket clip scales. Amazing knife though!!

I have experience with exactly two ball bearing flippers at this point. One, the CH Knives CH3001 is a nice light titanium frame lock flipper with a D2 blade. It costs around $60 shipped from a website in China. I have been evaluating ball bearing flippers and this one has proven to be easy carry, discrete, and so far handles medium tasks without any complaint. It has become one of my favorite EDCs

The other is a Harnds Talisman. It is much bigger and heavier. I has a 3.75"blade so a little out of your wants. The blade is also AUS8, not the best steel for edge retention but pretty tough and doesn't chip very easily. It is a liner lock with G10 contoured handles. So comfortable! $30 more or less shipped from some suppliers in China also.

I didn't have much expectation for these knives but they are great buys and I would recommend them without reservation.

I really like the Carbon Sea Eagle! Really good bang for buck knife as well! Thanks for the recommendation :)

The CH3001 looks like a high end knife but for a cheap price, cool. Only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have gimping on the top of the blade or handle! Other than that seems nice. And yeah the Talisman is a bit big and heavy for my taste. Thanks for the recommendations

You can find like new zt0450s on the classifieds pretty regularly. That's what I'd get.
What do you mean by on the classifieds? I'm actually really interested in this knife but not the price. I may just bight the bullet though and buy it. Any thoughts?

I think he means the Exchange section here where we buy and sell knives. You could definitely find a 0450 in your price range. It would probably be an excellent choice. I have the slightly-larger-but-otherwise-similar 0452 and it's terriffic.

Oh I didnt even know that existed... thats really cool! Thanks

I owned a CRKT Outrage briefly and it was a decent knife especially for the money ($40-$50). The looks didn't do it for me, but I must admit the action was terrific. The detent was perfect and the blade fired open authoritatively every time. The blade was perfectly centered and the factory edge was reasonably sharp.
  • Ball bearing pivot
  • One handed opening flipper
  • 3.3 mm blade thickness
  • 3.19" blade length
  • 6061 aluminum handle
  • Pocket Clip
  • Felt durable with solid lockup and no blade play

The Spyderco Mantra 2 can generally be purchased on the Exchange within your price range. It is marginally smaller than the 0450; but not enough so to be an issue for most people. I don't particularly like small knives; but, after recently purchasing a Mantra 2 as a gift, I was impressed enough with it to buy one for myself. (I've handled the 0450, and had no interest in it... but that is totally subjective, and I know plenty of people that like the 0450)
