Looking at getting a non-assisted flipper for under $200. I currently have two knives with flippers; Brous Bionic and Brian Tighe mini Tighe Rod. I'd like a decent blade steel (would prefer to stay away from 8Cr, AUS-8, etc.). Not interested in anything I'd have to de-assist.

Thanks y'all,

Save up a few more dollars and get yourself a Spyderco Southard. You won't regret it.

Buck Marksman all the way. And it's half your budget.

Also, 2nd place goes to Benchmade 300sn.

Spyderco Domino or ZT 801. I don't have a standard 801, but the 801CF flips incredibly. IMO the Domino flips much better than its brother.

My best value for money flipper is the ZT0200. A bank vault of a knife.

I will strongly second both of these knives. They each have a different flipping experience, but are both extremely smooth and fast. I may also add the Kershaw JYDII.

I don't have a regular 0801, but if it's flipping action is anything like the 0801CF, it is really fast and smooth. You can also sometimes find the 0560 for under $200, and that too rides on the KVT bearings. The Skyline is a tried and true favorite. The Zing (discontinued, but still not especially difficult to find) also has great flipping action. The RAM is another interesting one (also discontinued and getting a bit more difficult to find).

With a little looking you can score an ZT 801 for about $25-$30 south of your budget, and it is hard if not impossible to beat, Great steel in Elmax and superior flipping action. Also a great platform for pimping should the mood strike you.
Good luck on your choice--let us know what you go with!

I think the best options out right now are ZTs. The regular 0801 and the 0770CF can be obtained for significantly less than $200. Or wait for the 0562 to come out. I am confident you'll be able to find even the CF/M390 version for around $200.

Second-hand Southard all the way. I have most of the other knives listed in the thread, and while I like many of them, the Southard is IMO superior.

Are you sure you're not interested if you have to deassist? The ZT 0770CF still flips beautifully once the torsion bar is out, and it lacks the bulk that normally turns me off from Zero Tolerance.

If you can find a Kershaw Ram you will be hitting the ball out of the park. Ridiculously fast opening in a nice, stout package. Feels great in the hand and I love 14C28N steel, an odd Scandinavian cousin that doesn't get the respect it deserves.

I went ahead and bought a southard off the exchange. Thanks for y'all's input.

Well, I received the Southard and it just doesn't do anything for me. I like my Manix 2 XHP and PM2 far better. It just feels awkward in hand and to flip. So off to the exchange it will be going along with my Nilakka, another knife that just doesn't work for me. Looking at a Brous T4 or Mini division now to replace the Southard. Maybe an 0801. We'll see. Anymore input would be appreciated.

Since I'm selling the Nilakka, I'm looking at Sub $300 now.

ZT0801, ZT0560, ZT0562.

Personally, I would wait for the 0562CF.
