sub-3 inch suggestions?

I need a DC legal knife to complement my 921 osborne and afck. Anybody have any suggestions? DC legal means under 3 inches, but I don't want any smaller than it has to be so I want around 3. Must have a clip. I want something that looks nice, and is no more than approx. $100. I've had a Kershaw Avalanche in the past, would like to try something different just to mix things up.

I guess while I'm asking about sub-3 inch knives, what's the difference between the Spyderco Persian and the mini-Persian? They seem to have the same blade length to me and I only see the mini (75mm) on the Spyderco website.
Thanks,
Richard

Well, where I live has a 3-inch limit so I researched this awhile ago.

I choose a Benchmade PE mini-Pika, which fits the part perfectly. 2.9" so it's safely under 3 inches, has a clip, and it's nice looking w/good ergonomics. The price is WELL under $100 ($25 shipped, if you look around).

Spyderco Dragonfly is good too, in that it's just under 2.5 inches, with a clip- that opens up your EDC options a little more as far as those places that require sub 2.5 inch knives (i.e. schools, et. cetera). Also $25 if you're careful.

These 2 complement each other and would together cost about half of what you're willing to spend.

Hmmm, good point about the 2.5, though I don't think I have to worry about that. I go to school in NC, where a folder of any size isn't considered a weapon. I'm leaning real hard towards the mni-Persian right now.

How about any of the Benchmade 77x series? The 770 is really nice looking, and all of it's siblings are pretty too. At only 2.8, it's under the limit, and it's a great functional style for light use.

My favorite 2.5 inch blade is a Peter Atwood Solar Arc. Get one, if you can find it. It is the knife that IS my Avatar.

Spyderco Kopa has 2.5" VG10 flat ground blade, and come with different scale materials:
Cocobolo, Black Micarta, Evrina, Apple Coral and Tiger Coral.
The last Kopa Gold MOP out of price range, is about $190
Good luck

The Spyderco Yojimbo is a superb design for sub-3" areas. It offers tremendous cutting power for its diminutive blade length, while providing substantial grip with an integrated guard. As for looking nice, that's pretty subjective.:o I'll admit that it isn't the most attractive design, but it works for pure function. It is a fantastic performer.

If you live in DC and go to the beach, get a Boye Knive at www.boyeknives.com. The knife has a cast cobalt blade and titanium fittings and is completely rustproof. Boye knives is a small shop so their parts may be machine made, but the assembly and fit is by hand. The design has been evolving over the last ~15 years. It fits your hand like no other. They're $130 but sometimes they have discounts, give them a call if you are interested.

For around the water I have a Spyderco Pacific Salt & Salt 1. The Salt 1 is smaller.

My brother has a native, that's cheaper looking than I want. I don't know why but I don't like the BM77x's. That Nakamura does look interesting though. Not a big fan of the blade design on that peter atwood, same goes for the kopa. Kiwi is nice but too small. Not a fan of the yojimbo. BM332 is too plain for me. Don't like the blade design of the delica or cricket and pacific.

So it's down to Persian or Nakamura for now, but what's an RSK mini-grip? I can't seem to find that one. Oh wait, is that the same as the BM mini-griptilian? That's not quite as nice as I would like. I really do like the concept of that rustproof Boye...but that would be for something else (eating fruit type stuff, though then I don't know what I'd do with my 921).
Thanks for the suggestions all,
Richard
