in the uk, the only knives we can EDC without good reason are sub 3 inch blades which don't lock, i'd got a couple of niceones, but i just wondered what you guys would carry if you were in my position, it's always nice to get some inspiration.

I find myself partial to Stockman designs. All but the biggest have main blades less than 3".

I'm partial to single blade slippies myself so I would look for something like an Old Timer OT120 Pal. It is really a single blade Peanut.

Stockmans are always a good choice, my favorite multiblade slipjoint.

It may not be traditional, but Spyderco's UK Pen Knife is a nice, one handed slippy with one heck of a spring.

I also really like like my Case Sodbuster Jr.

I often carry a Case canoe pattern (62131). I think the main blade is around 2 -3/4" (I've got a Boker copperlock today so I can't check).

You could always move... ;)

I would carry this Queen #9. The new #9 is amber bone and even better looking to my eyes.

Those GEC Jacks & barlows look pretty good .The Case Tony Bose Swayback is a great one. A Queen #48 whittler is a fav. Finally, another pick would be the new Schatts coming out, they have a med Cokebottle jack & a Whittler that look great

For the Orwellian conditions in the U.K. I think I'd go for something as non-objectional as possable. Case peanut in a nice handle, or a sak. The recognition the red handle sak gets puts it pretty low on the radar.

I'd carry a SAK for the utility and the "harmless" factor.

Can you carry multitools there?

I am partial to single bladed slippies. I love Mike Alsdorf's knives. I have one of his knives on me at all times.

I carry like that and I live in the US. I commonly carry a Case medium stockman in CV steel, Swayback Jack, Queen City Canoe or trapper, GEC barlow, or victorinox pioneer. I'm really partial to the Cases .

I don't thin you could go wrong with any of the above mentioned or a SAK Farmer.

Nathan, I'm not very inspiring, but if I was looking to buy me a Good pocket knife that shouldn't scare people when you present it in public or when you get shook down by an officer of the Law. I would strongly consider a 3" closed Great Eastern Cutlery #25 double bolstered Jack marked un-X-ld, with Stag scales and 1095 carbon blades. They are well built strong little knives that perform way beyond their size. They get sharper than Einstein, have good stout springs that are manly, and will last for many years. This opinion didn't cost you one schilling, take it for what it's worth....:)

I really like my Case Pen knife in CV. Its small size and yeller handles carry well and don't scare the general public. Been partial to a little Boker Barlow here lately as well.

What sort of knives is England cranking out now? Most of the ones mentioned are from the US, are they hard to get over there? Sorry if a little off topic.

I would recomend a Canoe. Nice little knife that is big enough to use.

This is a 4" knife with a legal just under 3" blade.

Your choice is vast.

Almost all slipjoints have under 3" blades.
Unless you go to a trapper, slimline trapper, large toothpick, or large stockman

Nathan,

I would go to this link and no further!

http://www.sheffield-pocketknives.com/

The QC on Trevor Ablett can be spotty, and be prepared to send it back.
But well worth it!!!

I regularly carry knives that meet that description
-wenger SI
-Vic Spartan
-Buck medium stockman
-Case mini-trapper

I really like Case tiny toothpicks, especially with scrolled bolsters.

The Great Eastern Cutlery #73 Scout pattern.
(With versions available from Great Eastern Cutlery, Northfield, and Tidioute.)

Schatt & Morgan Gunstock in ATS-34.
Schatt & Morgan tiny toothpick in black lip pearl.

If I lived in the UK, I would also doubtlessly have more custom slipjoints.

While I abhor the UK knife laws and hysteria, the fact of the matter is, most of the knives I carry would be legal there (i.e. sub-3-inch blades that don't lock). So, if I were in your shoes, I'd look at a nice traditional pockeknife from Case (I like their carbon steel or "CV" blades) or Boker or Queen, etc., or I'd go with the Swiss army knife of my choice (I prefer the 84mm models as I find them more comfortable to carry in pocket).
