I've been thinking about trying out a fixed blade for EDC/ last ditch self defense. What sub 4" fixed blades would you guys recommend for at or under, say $100. I've seen some from TOPS that look pretty nice but I've had a couple in the past so I'm looking to try something new. As far as what I'm looking for specifically:
-Kydex sheath
-Scales with screw fasteners so I Have the option to cord wrap the handle
-Stainless steels preferred but I'm aware that a lot are coated 1095 which I can live with
-U.S. made (again, not a requirement but strongly preferred)
Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

I used to have an Izula. I've been thinking about just getting another but I want to see if there's anything else I'd prefer.

Spyderco Mule Team might fit the bill. Premium steel, 3.3"blade and no scales for under a hundred bucks.

I don't believe they do, but I'm thinking you could pick up the Mule Team and have someone on the forum make a Kydex sheath for pretty close to $100 total.

For something different check out the Tops california cobra. It's not much of a EDC blade but would open boxes and packages just fine.It wouldn't do well at cutting your sandwich in half or wood carving. It is one heck of a last ditch tool!Handles are pinned but that is easily fixed with a drill.Good sheath, crap clip(it works but its no tek lock)again easily fixed with a drill and a tek lock.

Looking at that too.

Interesting looking blade but can't have double edge blades here.

Check the maker's market here. You will be amazed at what you can get under $100. No production fbs I've handled will compare with the customs I've snagged on here.

I used to want a Benchmade Nimravus, now I'm more interested in similar shapes from TOPS, and I prefer 1095 for its additional toughness.

i love my esee 3, and i also enjoy the izula as my 2nd edc blade. its unreal how much more i find myself using my knives when they cost much less, easy to replace, and stronger. i get more enjoyment out of my fixed bladed than my folders.

however i still enjoy a good flipping of my other knives from time to time lol. 98% of the time i have the esee fixed blades on my

Have you checked out the Becker BK-14? It's got a 3.25" blade and the same handle as the Izula. Made out of 1095 steel and sells for about $40 without handle scales. If you want the Zytel scales I think they sell for about $14. Plus it's manufactured in America by Kabar.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. I actually just placed an order with a custom maker. I'll post in either this thread or make another with info and pics once it arrives.

Throw those rules out the window and get yourself an old American made Schrade Sharpfinger. Donot get one of the newer Taylor made in China ones but go to eBay and find a old new in box American made one. Its a very handy knife and you can carry it most anywhere with out drawing attention.

Sounds like a job for an ESEE 3. If you want something nicer, might I interest you in a Bark River Gunny, which checks in at 3.775".
