sub 5" FB, hidden tang

One of my buddies is leaving the glory of TRADOC and will be deploying soon. He's got a gerber multitool, and I'm thinking about getting him a grip (liked my 806D2 after seeing me spydie drop and inertial open it, but my junior enlisted pay says I can't buy him one of his own ) He got one of those cheapo S&W tantos from the PX, and I'd like to pass on something better. I don't know (yet) but I figure a shorter blade without an exposed tang to heat up in the desert sun would be best for humping around in iba. Not a load of time for customizing, so it needs a quality sheath that'll strap in off the bat, too.

I'll second the recommendation for a Fallkniven F1. Or any Fallkniven for that matter.

Spyderco Temperance is a good one. Check out their whole line of FBs.

Benchmade Rant might be good. Look through their FB offerings too, and you'll probably find a couple winners.
