I have the opportunity to buy a almost new hardness tester for around $450. It is not the newest model that is offered from this company. I don't REALLY need it but I figure I should be able to make my money back if I decide I don't want/need it right?

What kind of tester is it? Be sure that it reads the C scale. If it is in good shape and has the anvils and diamond penetrator it is probably a good deal. I just paid $550 for one.

one of the biggest problems is shipping. Most individuals selling will not ship it, and if they do its gonna be hugely expensive. so If you have one thats local I would go for it.

It tests scales A-F and K, it is a local pickup, it has calibration blocks but I will find out about which anvil and tables

Thanks,
Nathan

Yea, double check it has a diamond penetrator/indenter. I bought a used Ames off of EBay and it turned out too good to be true; no indentor or anvil. I should have known to ask but didn't. Now its going to cost me a lot more than I thought.

It has the diamond penetrator and looks like it only comes with a 2 3/16" anvil. I will make an offer, worst case I don't buy it.

The 2 3/16 anvil is the one I use for testing knives. It sounds like a good deal, I learned alot about my own heat treat the first month I had my tester. I pretty much have 1084 down to a science now but it took me getting humbled by my new to me tester first.
