Hi Folks,

Here are some pictures of my latest sub hilt fighter. I took it with me to The Gathering last month in Vegas. On Saturday afternoon I finally got to meet STeven. We've had exchanges on the forums off and on for the last couple of years, but this was the first time I'd spoken to him face to face. Well, the first thing STeven does is find two flaws, a scratch and a small nick on the fittings. Man, was I embarrassed! I had entered the knife in the competition. If you had seen how crowded that table was you would have been concerned like me. That's where, I believe, the knife got dinged up. Anyway, I got the knife fixed and took these pictures.

The blade is Elmax stainless steel, 8 3/4" long and 1 5/8" wide. The fittings are 416 stainless. Handle is stabilized koa. It is available.

The next time I see STeven and he asks to look at a knife, I'm going to ask him to wait a minute while I give it quick look!

David

Yep - not a lot gets by Garsson.

That's a beautiful fighter David - I really like the contouring of the handle and I'm glad you took some pics to show it. Really nice lines overall and beautiful Koa wood.

I look forward to it.:)

Beautiful knife...real pleasure to hold, superbly balanced and wonderfully executed finish.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Great subhilt, David. I really love your subhilts alot. And it even came with a STeven blessing in the final analysis AND a story, can't get any better than that.

Best,

Bob

Beautiful sculpting, on both blade and handle. You truly have an artists eye, David.

Picture 4 is a great one for showing the handle contours. Looks comfortable, wish I could hold it. The blade shape is wonderful and it's no secret that I love subs. Sweet knife!

David,
That is a beautiful subhilt. Enjoyed looking at it at G2, and yes the awards competition table was packed. Best to you.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the comments. While I was cleaning up the handle I moved the palm swell up forward a bit, then refinished the whole thing. Danbo, the Elmax is good. Takes longer to hand finish than CPM154 and similar steels, but not as long as s30v. And it looks much nicer than the "v" steels.

I think the next sub hilt I make is going to have a hamon. I've made three knives with hamons now, and have discussed the process or read the posts by makers like Hansen, Horan, and Wheeler. (Nick, you're just plain nuts! Somebody has to give you some competition!) Just got to decided whether to go with a double edge or single.
