Sub hilt fighter with engraving

Hi Folks,

This is the last knife I finished in 2009. It was a custom order with the collector picking some design elements from several of my sub hilts. The blade is CPM154, 8" long and hand finished. The fittings are 416. The handle is ironwood.

My customer also wanted the fittings engraved, so I had my buddy Ray Cover cut his signature bold intertwined scrolls into them. As with all of Ray's work, it is exceptionally smooth and clean. There is a lot of nice scrollwork out there, but Ray's is my favorite. I wish more of my customers would get engraving on the knives.

That's a beauty of a subhilt, David. My hat's off to both you and Ray.

I find it interesting (amusing? curious?) that you have two such distinct styles of work--on the one hand you do very clean, graceful subhilts, Loveless-style knives, etc., and on the other you do very intricate, organic-looking carved knives.
