Sub Hilt vs D-Guard bowie?

When it comes to bowie from the very best makers, which features are more functional/better aesthetic in your opinion?

It's a personal preference thing, kind of asking someone if they like Ford or Chevy better. Personally I'm not a HUGE fan of either, however have owned one D-Guard.

D guards are nice - until you get a finger jammed during use. (Happens when working at awkward angles or the hand starts to fatigue). I only have one, won't buy another (at least not as a user)
I prefer the subhilt, aesthetically.

I enjoy and have both but the smaller envelope of a sub-hilt works for me better in carry and usage.
