looking for suggestions on a pocket sized(Levi's not Jnco's) sturdy folding flipper under one hundred bucks. I'm woefully ignorant on the genre. thanks.
There are tons of budget flippers I'm not versed on but one of my favorite, and the only one I own is a Kershaw Shallot. It's extremely thin and carries great for a 3.5" blade, very pocket friendly.
I only do manual flippers, but there are plenty of great manual flippers available for less than a hundred dollars.
It's a bit chunky, but my favorite cheap flipper at the moment is the Buck Vantage Avid. I have most of the Vantage versions, including the more expensive iterations with better blade steel, but the Avid is my favorite of the bunch. I like the way the dymondwood (a wood composite product) handles feel, and the Sandvik steel is plenty for actual use. The later versions have improved fit and finish, and my Vantage Avid flips very well and is a solid little knife. Here's a snapshot of my Vantage Avid:
For premium materials on a budget, consider one of the Kizer flippers as well. The current models stick you with tip down carry clips only, though, so if tip down carry is a deal breaker you may be SOL with those. I paid just over a hundred for a titanium frame lock with an S35VN blade from them (model 3404) and it's probably my favorite small flipper (~3" blade) at this point. For a larger option on a budget from them, the 405 is another great budget choice if you can tolerate the tip down carry. Here is my 3404:
G10 kershaw cryo might be worth looking into when it comes out, seems to solve a few of the issues with the stock cryo. Not sure what you consider to be "pocket size" but I wear relatively slim jeans and carry knives up to 3.6".
