Sub-hundred dollar choppers

I need a good, affordable, heavy-duty chopping blade over six inches in blade length.
What are my options? Trying to choose the least-costly option.

I just purchased an Ontario Raider Bowie for $33, it was a factory second but I can't find a thing wrong with it.They are normally around $55-60.The blade is a 1/4" thick and 9 3/4" long.
I used it this weekend to chop down some bamboo poles and it did the job.

edit: I bought mine at Chestnut Ridge

Wow did I misread your title. Thought it said Six Hundred dollar chopper...Ooops

Kershaw Outcast should be in that price range.

D2 Blade, Kydex Sheath, Comfy Handle.

With that much scratch offered up, I can't see why you wouldn't get a custom blade made, go take a look over in the knifemakers section. Those guys do some amazing work.

Best chopper for your money would be an ESEE Junglas. Very hard to beat that guy.

Very true, The Junglas is a great blade.A sub $100 equal would be the RTAK II

Any chance I could get some an RTAK 2 as a factory second somewhere? Anyone have one they'd be interested in selling/trading?
Also, how's the quality of those Becker blades? All checks out with me, but I'd be interested to see what people's experiences with them are.
Thanks.

Beckers are pretty darn tough and a great deal. Cant go wrong with one.

don't know about seconds, but there are plenty of RTAK 2's on the exchange frequently.
the Becker BK7 & 9 are both good blades.
Junglas is awesome, but you're not likely to find one under $100.
CS recon scout or trailmaster can occasionally be found in SK5 under $100.
Condor Kuminga, Hudson Bay, or Golok are under $50 - golok sheath is extra.
CRKS in the dealer section of the exchange has been offering good prices on Ontario seconds.

Hmmm.
I'll have to do some studying of my options further.
All this effort to replace the dogfather I'm selling to get one tomahawk...
But it's gonna be sweeeeeeet.

I completely misread your title, guess I need that coffee after all. Edited my post with a better suggestion. Kershaw outcast.

Selling a Dogfather ! You must really want that Hawk !!!!!! :D

Yeah.
I figure all I'm losing is the pain in the ass of sharpening SR77 when I go to a 1095 steel, AUS8, or whatever it is I choose in the end.
But I do get a sweet-ass hawk.
If the deal goes through (praying now).

I've found 1095/aus8 are easier for me. Maybe it's the edge geometry of my Dogfather.
The hawk is a Vec.

odd, sharpening my DF is actually pretty easy....

what are you using?

few passes on the belt sander for rougher stuff and its good to go.

though to be honest i use almost strop and green compund exclusively

Condor Hudson Bay Camp knife! 8 1/2" 3/16s" carbon steel blade with wood handle and nice thick leather dangler sheath. The best $35 I've spent in a loooong time!

Since getting it I've used it a lot for everything from chopping blackberry vines (machete style), limbing downed Alder trees, batoning firewood for my wood stove, debarking Douglas Fir branches, chopping down Alder trees on the property as big as 6" diameter, and even a little whittlling! Can't go wrong with a Condor.
