Subcom F opening action

I just got a Subcom F and so far love everything about it except for 2 things - the opening action and the left hand (i.e. clip side) thumb stud.

With respect to the opening action, it's a lot rougher than I'm accustomed to with an audible steel on steel sound. Any suggestions on things I can do to smooth the action out?

With respect to the left hand thumb stud, the problem is that it gets caught on my pants pocket when I'm trying to clip the knife in my pocket (right side). I open exclusively righty so I don't need the left hand stud at all, so I'm thinking of either filing it down or removing it entirely. Does anyone know if you can remove only the left side thumb stud while keeping the right side? Assuming that isn't possible (which from the studless Subcom pictures I've seen seems to be case), has anyone filed down their studs or replaced them with another kind of stud? I know I could switch the clip to tip down carry, but I tried that and didn't like having my hand rub against the blade jimping when I put my hand in my pocket to get something else.

Thanks in advance.

With respect to the thumbstud, don't remove the left side. There won't be anything to hold the right side on. Tape up the blade with some duct or masking tape, then hit the corners with a file and then some fine sand paper (backed with a small stick). Should be able to knock enough off to keep it from catching on your pocket.

As for the metal-on-metal sound during opening, that is the ball in the lock bar rubbing the tang of the blade. There might be a bit of grit in the track. Try cleaning it out and see if that helps. It may just be that the tang is a bit rough, and will wear smooth with time.

Actually, opening and closing it a few times after a spot of lube should ease the opening right up.

UPDATE

Thanks for the advice guys.

I removed the coating from the blade tang, polished it and then applied a drop of lube, and now the opening action is not only butter smooth, but fast - I can now fire open the blade with a good flick of the thumb.

I also filed down the corners of not just the left hand side thumb stud but also the right hand side (albeit at an angle) which has made opening a lot more comfortable.

All in all, I'm really loving this knife now. Fantastic ergonomics for such a small knife, nice blade and great opening action.
