Subcom Folder Problem

Hey guys, I've been having a problem with my Subcom lately. After I took it apart for maintenance its been rather difficult to open and close. I haven't over tightened any of the the torx screws and the pivot is the same as when I first took it out of the box. The blade makes a scraping sound when opened and closed as oppose to the buttery smooth sliding sound it used to make (if it made sound at all). After I looked at it disassembled I noticed that the little track area where the ball bearing in the frame lock usually slides on the blade was somewhat rough and it didn't have a smooth line of contact like it used to. Is there any way to get the smooth opening and closing action back?

I've sat here trying to "rebreak" it in and it isn't helping much. I've also added some lubricant too. I want my old Subcom back!

I've had similar problems with the subcoms as well. I've had to dissassemble and reassemble mine several times to get it right. Be sure to tighten each screw gradually, instead of tightening one all the way and then moving to the next one. Sorry, but that's the only advice I got.

Move the female part of the pivot screw arround before thightning it there is a somewhat flatted spot that should align with the metal frame lock part;) and the blade hole.

Hmm still no luck. Its still a gritty feeling opening and closing. Any other ideas?

Aloha and welcome imprezions,

Sorry to hear about this...FWIW I too, have had it happen to me.:o Anyway, I noticed after some "playing" with the Teflon washer a bit got rid of that "gritty" feel...

Keep us posted please, and God bless!

I've literally tried everything I can think of to get the blade action smooth again. I think that the problem is with the small ball bearing on the linerlock. For some reason it no longer has a small point of contact, but rather is flat and basically grinds on the blade. The contact is no longer smooth like it used to be. I'm not really sure what to do about this. But its gotten to the point where it makes opening and closing the knife very difficult. :(

I really liked this knife and having this problem just sucks! Any ideas?

Thanks for all the info and tips guys. I've actually had some success lately. I've been messing around with the washers more and varying the tightness of each screw. I also added some more lubricant. Its actually been opening and closing a lot better. :)

Hello Imprezions,
