Just kinda thinking out loud here, but what about a Subcom with a kiridashi-style blade? You could get a lot of usable edge and a wicked point. Would be good for slashing cuts as well as penetration.

This popped into my head while I was using my Subcom folder a little while ago, but now that I consider it some more I guess it could go for either the folder or the fixed blade version. Wish I could draw or do computer graphics worth a damn to make a mock-up.

Any thoughts?

You know, I was thinking something similar, though with as much edge as possible (basically, it would have an edge extending from the "index finger choil" to the tip) - kind of a diagonal wharcliffe if you will, with a primary bevel maybe 0.3-0.5 inches wide (as much of the blade as possible retains full thickness - kind of curious what this would look like in folder form (it works well in small FB (OAL < 6 inches) form from what I can tell).

Yes, that's a good way to put it. Exactly what I was picturing. If I still had my Wharcom I'd have taken it apart and held the blade at an angle to position it like that and get a rough idea what it'd look like, but alas I sold it.

Before the Subclaw hit the market, somebody posted some concept art they had made of a Persian bladed Subcom. DW responded that he already had concepts for most blade styles for his sub compact knives. So, hopefully CLB has already thought of this and has a design ready to go. Whether or not Boker would go ahead with it (especially considering they already have the WharCom) is a completely different topic.

Okay, here's a visual representation. I took the scale off of my Subclaw, traced the outline and then added two straight lines for the edges of the blade (simple enough :)) The area around the ricasso is just a guess, there might be a little more edge to be had there. The cutting edge length on this drawing is right at 2".

There's just something I like about this kind of blade in the Subcom housing.

Aloha ALL!!!

Yep...Incidentalist is correct. Got a Kira type blade in my "SFV Vault of Designs". Nice work though jujigatame, my Moto GP bro!!!

God bless and we'll see what happens, eh? :-)

Good to know you've got all the angles covered Chad. Did you ever try that blade style for the Subcom fixed blade model?
