Subcom variations?

Hi All,

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, but could anyone give me a list of currently available Subcom types/colors and what will be soon available? I know there is the regular (black handle/silver blade), and the tan-handled one. What about the Wharncliffe blade, or the fixed? Thanks in advance!

Ahem...this is my cue.;)

Currently Available:

Black FRN Subcom PE AUS-8(4th Generation)
Desert Tan FRN Subcom CE AUS-8

Possibly still available from dealers with old stock:

1st, 2nd, and 3rd Generation Black FRN Subcom.

1st Gen was 420J2 steel, no jimping on the lockbar, no writing on blade(except country of origin and Magnum Stainless)

2nd Gen was same as 1st, with an AUS-8 blade.

3rd Gen was same as 2nd, with the addition of the Boker Plus logo on the blade(still no jimping on the lockbar, that was added to the 4th Gen)

The first two will have boxes that say Magnum, while the 3rd and 4th Gen will have Boker Plus boxes.

Available in the somewhat near future:

Subcom Fixed Blade(see my avatar) will be available around November.

Wharncom and Rescom(both black FRN) will be available sometime in
November as well.

The all Black Subcom will be available in October.

Please note all release dates are estimated, and subject to change(The fixed blade was supposed to be out in March, so that gives you an idea of how much things can change.)

I have a new one for you. I have what appears to be a 3rd or 4th Generation (Boker Plus is definitely on the blade) that is still in a Magnum Box. Thoughts? Do we have another variant?

Thanks Scott. I am really going to like the Wharncom; please just tell me that they won't be serrated, or "combo"! Also, I'm ordering a Subcom today!

Hmm...

That makes five variants then.;) But should we count it as a variant when the only difference is the box? I don't know, what do the collector's think?

Does a different box alone make it it's own variant?:confused:

Wharncom looks like it's going to be PE, Rescom will be CE, as will the all black.

Forgot to mention the OD green Subcom, but we don't know when it's coming out yet.

Technically yes, but realistically no. The reason being it is impossible to distinguish if the knife came from the factory with that box or was switched by a "third party" after the fact...unless the box itself is somehow different. But who wants to collect cardboard any way? :)

Okay, not counting the boxes:

1st gen: PE, short clip, 420J2

2nd gen: PE, long clip, AUS8

3rd gen: PE, Boker Plus Logo, AUS8, NO jimping on lockbar.

4th gen: Um...should be same as above BUT with jimping on lockbar.

Cripes!!! I have NEVER seen a 4th Gen. SF yet, if anyone has, please let me know!:D

Otherwise, Scott nailed the rest as far as colors...or did he? :p As Yoda said to Obi Wan in Empire, "No...there is another.";)

That means I'm further behind in the collection than I thought I was!!!

I still need a Gen. 3 and 4 of the plain edge black ones. Not to mention the Tan CE and soon to be released new variants!

I think I've got some catching up to do when I get some more disposable cash. Maybe I should skip the middle man and just send Chad all my money.
