I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on my first Boker, a Subcom F. I will be using this for EDC, mail, cutting up boxes, opening up my dip cans and other light tasks. What I want to know is how are the Ti handles compare to the fiberglass-reinforced nylon? Is it worth the extra few dollars for the Ti? Thanks for any input.

Can't really compare it with the FRN model because I don't own one but I do have the Ti version and it's excellent. I've heard that the FRN's are a bit on the heavy side in relation to their size and I certainly don't have that complaint with the Ti. I do wish they'd release the Ti with more blade options though.

I chose the FRN version. For me Ti does not add to the usefulness.

I don't think there is a clear choice here. I believe it is up to you as to which you prefer.

I will say I am much impressed with the sub Com.

The Subcom Titan seems like a classier knife, so I figured it was worth a few bucks extra. I like mine.

That's my favorite Boker Plus series. The SubClaw goes with me everywhere.

Go for it!

Since the FRN scales are molded/hollowed out (nested steel liners) the strength difference is minimal, and the wear resistance of the steel framelock is still probably better than the Ti framelock. I have both, like both, but my favorite remains my first one in the series, the Subcom F in AUS8 (2nd gen).

all the other subcoms are offered in aus-8, any thoughts on the difference in this platform?

I checked into the Boker forum to ask a question about my Titan, which I'll do shortly. I thought I'd share a couple of thoughts about the OP's question first though.

The first thing I found out about my Titan is that the Ti surface scratches exceedingly easy. The first day I got it I took the clip off and dropped the knife in my pocket. I carry the key to my Jeep separate from the rest of my key ring, and the Titan shared that pocket with just one key in it. Didn't take the knife or the key out of my pocket that day. The most work I did was a ton of walking. When I got home from work, the surface was scratched all to Hell. Obviously the scratches weren't deep, really just micro scratches, but so noticeable that every time I looked at it I got PO'ed at myself all over again. So today I did something about it. I took it apart and polished the clip (which I decided to use after all), and both sides of the frame. Here's a couple of pics:

It really wasn't all that difficult to get that high luster. I would say if you like flash, and you're willing to put a little elbow grease into it, the Titan would definitely be worth it.

I'm not a big-time steel snob, but I am rather bigoted when it comes to 440C. However, with a knife like this, that I can't imagine ever using much harder than the kinds of tasks the OP mentioned, I doubt I'd even think about the blade steel if it wasn't printed on the blade. Also, to the extent that I am a snob, AUS-8 is just barely above the 400 series steels in my estimation, so no matter which model of Subcom I got, I wouldn't have bought it for the steel anyway. For me it was a total impulse buy. It'll probably be more of a knife-conversation-starter than anything else for me.

Don't know if that helps or not, but it gave me an excuse to show off my handiwork! LOL
