Hi Chad,

Has there been any 'market research' or any intent to make subcom models in less 'tactical' colors?
e.g. blue, green, yellow, or even pink

Those colors might appeal to people who may need a small and convenient flat folding knife like the subcom that is 'sheeple' friendly.

Regards,
Mike

At this time, no.
It doesn't seem to have been a ninderence, having them in black.
We have quite a few female purchasers/carriers of them.
You never know, though.
If the demand is there, it will at least be looked at.

Thanks, Terry

There is a tan Subcom, which is less tactical. And the Subcom fixed can be wrapped in the paracord color of your choice. :)

I can imagine one could remove the scale and customize it with primer, spray paint and a couple clear layers. Might take a day of waiting for coats to dry, but if you do some other knives with it you could have a batch of semi-customs. I've been rather tempted to do it myself, buy a bunch of Wharcoms and color-coordinate them with what I wear every day.
...I wish I were kidding...

... or, you could go with a custom made replacement scale.... :)

Aloha TheFlash,

No, no actual "marketing research" should be needed. FWIW, I WANT more colors available on PE versions of the venerable SFV's...I think they deserve it.;) Most "females" opt for the Desert Tan version until they see the CE blade. Then it's, "How do I sharpen THIS part?":p

I mean, cripes, have you seen how many colors the BM Mel Pardue Mini-Griptillian comes in???:thumbup::eek:

Oh yeah, you could go also a GREAT custom scale by the man who suggested it. Potter turns out some amazing scales, in all sorts of materials. My wife still carries/uses a Gen1 SF wearing a Potterma "white/purpley/black" scale...

God bless and let's just all PRAY for more colors in PE!!!

what country are the subcoms made?

and where can I get a custom pink scale for my wife thanks?

He's not kidding. There are both plain and combo edged Mini-Grips in both lime green and vibrant purple. If I did spray-paint my own Subcoms I'd be using the plain-edged black model, the combo-edge issue is the very thing holding me back from the black-bladed models.

Made in Taiwan, very good quality for the price. For the custom scale, email Potterma, who posted earlier, he should be able to set you up (and quite reasonably, too!).

The BM Griptilians practically come in every color of the rainbow. (An exaggeration, but very close to the truth.)
Even so, some women in my immediate and extended family find even the Mini-Grippies to be a bit on the big side. The Subcoms really are a great size for the ladies.
Swapping out the scale or even painting it is a good idea. I'll have to check into scale removal/replacement to see how easy it is.

Thank you for your personal reply, Chad. Much appreciated!

Best regards,
Mike

I think Subclaws for Women in different FRN colors would be a hit too  a digital camo/black blade Subclaw would probably rock as well :)

In general, it is not bad to have a version in a friendliy color, without any tactical appearance. I know, that there a women, who buy and carry some Subcoms or Trances, but, they prefer a "serious" color.
Only a few women like the "girlie" colors like pink, but there are some.
We thought about it in the past, but the demand was not that high, to produce a batch of pink or other colors...

I agree it doesn't seem to be a 'female' thing. Heck, I've had females question my tastes in orange and yellow knives saying they prefer black or even olive drab. The audience in different colors would vary between collectors, those with some personal flare, those who want a very friendly looking knife, and even the outdoors crowd who want things to be easily seen. I love my Wharcom, but it disappears with its black/silver tones even just sitting in my desk clutter, I'd rather have at least one easily seen Subcom around just for occasions where I want to find it easily. Yellow might be a stretch, but orange, red, or any color that doesn't happen to match BDUs or ACUs would be welcome.

Ha ha, what a funny thread!

Heck, I'll carry a Hawkbill in Puke Green if it has a cool enough blade profile...

...well, maybe not *puke green*, I'd rather have aubergine...;)

Agent Starling :D
