How do I? subscribe to someone's posts?

Is there any way to proactively subscribe to threads or posts created by a specific person? For example, there are a few makers that post in Fixed Blades and Folders, where I'd like to be notified (alert or email) whenever they post anything new. Not sure if there's a way to do that.

I tried following them, but I haven't quite figured out what the "follow" functionality does

Edit: probably should specify, I don't mean the Watch functionality, unless there's a way to filter it. For example, I'd like to be notified when a new thread by a certain maker is posted in Fixed Blades, not just when any thread is posted.

You can "follow" the user, then their posts will show up in "Your News Feed"
