My apologies if this has been asked hundreds of times, but I see people are responding to new posts within seconds or 1 minute whenever there's a knife or something else for sale. Take Nathan Corothers amazing pieces for instance LOL. I too would like to take advantage of this alert system. When I selected 'Control Panel' for the subscription alerts, nothing happened. Emails seem to come in daily at 7 or 8 am, waaay after items are sold and gone. What am I doing wrong? Do I need a paid account for auto alerts?

I know I'm way off on something, because I could never get the 'Maker Email Alerts' to work at FHCK either LOL.

Much thanks in advance! Helping me and my ignorance get alerts will surely help put me in the poor house - exactly where I want to be as long as I got me blades!

The only thing that I'm aware of is that you can subscribe to a particular section. To do this go to the main page of that section and then on top you'll see the administrative tab. Other than that it's more of being in the right place at the right time.

When you subscribe to a thread, you can set it up so you receive instant notification via email of new posts.

Subscribing to forums however, only allow you to receive them in bulk, not in real time. Pity for situations like this as his knives and others sell out quick.

Befriending him on the forums will let you see new posts of his from your profile, might be quicker and easier to notice. Also, some makers have email lists for new things coming out. Coudnt hurt to ask.

Good luck in your hunt.

Thanks for the insight guys. rycen - I've made a life out of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and making the wrong decision. I've gotten good at being wrong lol. You read my mind a bit benchwarmer as I've only subscribed to forums I believe. Time to go knock off a few thread subscriptions like FF's Flea Market.:D
Thanks again guys.

You can also try Tapatalk. When you subscribe it will send 'push' alerts to your phone about 5 seconds after a post is made.
Much quicker than e mail.
Joe

No amount of technology or alerts is going to get a Nathan Carothers knife for you. Pay attention to when he announces when knives are going to be for sale. Do that by following his other sales. His knives sell out in less than a minute. Many many folks miss out every time. You need to be on it with a bit of luck to get one, even on the secondary market.

I actually lucked out on the last shiv he had from blade I believe :)
Now i wait for it to make its trip to Alaska .

I REALLY want a field knife In the new delta ht and the light chopper looks amazing .
I can only hope for a smaller edc friendly Lil slicer in delta 3v :)

Nice grab Teppojutsu. Looks like two guys lucked out big time over at FortHenryCustomKnives. When I got there the second field knife offered still had "Add to Cart" under it instead of "Sold." My heart was pounding with excitement as I clicked the button, but the product description page painfully read "Sold" and there wasn't a cart option. Oh, Maker Email Alerts, how you mock me!

It's funny you mention that I HAD THE BROWN ONE IN MY CART :)

Lol I almost bought it for a fall back .
He has one more keep checking and he will list it

I'm really excited I'm not sure how many shivs have been made but I know he doesn't make them as.much any more .
So I was glad to get one.while.i can

Don't worry they have around 200 field knives coming I'm sure 1 or 2 got are names on it ;)

This might be a slight turn from the title thread, but I did mention the man in my OP - does Nathan routinely post his available blades at a certain time (i.e. 2:00pm est or 3:00pm est)?

I have no idea about that.
It's all about speed and being able to hit refresh all day without blinking.
I hope I snag one myself and good luck to you as well :)

Ain't that the truth. It seems you've provided the final and ultimate answer to my OP lol. I KNEW Fiddleback Friday was @ 3:00 pm, but with my slow connection I was still 19th in line! I lucked out as one of my favorites was still available.

Thanks for throwing me some luck, good luck to you as well!

^ I didn't know that Andy does his weekly sale at 3:00 or I would have chosen a different time for mine. Whoops. :o But, that's when I do my sales. Friday 3:00 EST. The theory being I build knives all week, and on Friday afternoon I put my week's work up for sale, they sell over the weekend and we bill on Monday.

The reality is they have been going a little faster than that and things have gotten fast paced recently. For that, I apologize, I know that buying a knife shouldn't be some kind of hurried process where the buyer has to jump through hoops to get what they need. We're trying to increase our output, but I'm not willing to cut corners, and I pride myself on honest pricing, so I don't want to tweak the pricing to balance the supply/demand imbalance, the work needs to be worth what you pay for it without some kind of "hot item premium". The end result recently has been shortages where the week's work sells out very quickly. I'm sorry about that, buying a knife shouldn't be stressful and Jo and I are working on improving our output.

To answer the OP: I don't think a subscription or alert is going to get you a knife at this time because they have been selling out in minutes. Given the time constraints I think your best bet would be to be on the sale forum at 3:00 when they post ( http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/754-For-Sale-Fixed-Blades )

The problem then is knowing what is going to post and if it's what you're looking for. Ideally it would be a leisurely sale, but the reality is there isn't a lot of time to place an order. So Jo maintains a facebook page where a person can see what will be posting so they can decide in advance if it's something they want without feeling rushed during a sale : https://www.facebook.com/CarothersKnives/

I also update my signature to say what we're working on this week.

My end goal is to provide high quality work that is a good value. Jo and I genuinely appreciate your interest in our work and I feel very fortunate to be able to provide for myself and my family doing work that I love for you folks. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Very honorable. And thank you for all of that information you shared!

Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy, looks like this is gonna be a looong upcoming week of anticipation. :D Time to sell off some silver and get in line haha!

Keep doing what you two do, that's what we all want! Thank you for all your insight Nathan, the knowledge that permeates from your posts is amazing.
