I've been loving my dodo...and realizing what happens when I push my personal size limit just a little....so I'm scaling down my knives.

So I'm calling this class subtactical. It doesn't mean that much more than normal tactical. 2.5 inch and less blades, good handle materials, one hand opening, pocket clips, etc.

They're really growing on me.

Just for example, the dodo, mouse II, cricket, subcom....

Am I forgetting anything?

I think you're on to something! What's the bottom knife in your pictures? I kind of like it although not sure about the black thumbstud. Any idea what the stud is made of and if it will stay put?

That's the Boker subcom...a lot of people were talking about this knife for awhile...supposedly it's a lockback, but I don't see it.

It's a very cheap knife, I think it's like 20 dollars online.

Not to hi-jack, but it is a Boker Magnum Subcom Folder. The thumb-studs are FRN and stay put very well. This is a neat little folder. Blade steel is 420J2 but there is a steel upgrade right now to AUS-8a. The 420J2 woks very well and I have posted some small cutting tests over in the Boker fourm.

To add, it is a frame lock and a good one at that.

Noticed the trend also. I think neck knives started it swinging that way, not to mention concealment is more an issue now then ever.

I carry this, Buck Mini Taclite. G-10 scales on 3.5" handle, button release liner lock, 2.6" ATS-34 blade, pocket clip, bronze washers, dual thumbstuds.

It is discontinued but they can still be found online.

I like little knives too!! I love the Mouse & Mouse 2, and I soooo want one of Chad's Subcom folders!! My Solar Arc has a blade of 2.5 inches.

I think it's a developing genre.

Sub size is good for the blade (to a point), but I still want a good, control enhancing grip frame. Two or three fingers just doesn't cut it with me.

A lot of interest in the subcom...they're pretty cheap...under 25 online at some places...here's a better photo.

In response to orthogonal, you've got to try the dodo...it's got a ~2 inch blade but it's the BEST handle I've ever used, including the para and manix. Obviously, pocket space is compromised....

Gotta throw the Native in there even though I'm not sure whether it exceeds 2.5". My fave allaraound smaller folder.

The Spyderco Toad is an extremely handy little knife that is very sheeple friendly. It's out of production now but you can still pick them up on ebay at a fairly reasonable price. Yep, it's ugly but the looks of the knife kinda grow on you after you carry one for a while. :D (the thin blade cuts like a razor. too)
