Subwoofer Rattle

The subwoofer I have been using for a number of years has recently started to rattle when playing the lowest ranges it is capable of. It sounds like something inside is just flapping around when things really get moving. Already tried tightening down all the screws, and even tried a new speaker, but with no luck. I also took a peek inside and couldn't see anything obviously loose causing the problem. Any idea on other things I could try to get it fixed up?

TIA for any suggestions.

Is it enclosed or a free-air sub? If it's in an enclosure, you might want to check the box for leaks, cracks, etc.

Yeah, its enclosed. Will check for cracks, but might be hard as it is covered in a laminate type material.

I had a similar problem, turned out that the voice coil was somehow damaged and was rubbing against the magnet so it caused a scratching sound when the cone moved in and out. It still played fine and all that but you can hear the rattle, scratching sound as it played. To check for leaks in the box, push the cone inand release it, it should spring back up fast if there are no leaks, if it sinks in and comes back up slowly then you have a leak somewhere. you can sometimes hear a hiss when you do that and its from the air pushing out(pushing cone in) and sucking back in as the cone comes back up.
