If I'm not mistaken, I have the privelege of posting the first photo of the results of our VERY successful turn-out at the Fox River Knife Rendezvous!
This thread - or maybe another - will get further participation and MANY more photos, but this is the way it turned out.
A brief rundown of the progress was that each stage of the creation of this knife and its accessories was performed by different artisans.
This is only a brief sketch of events and many names and tasks need to be elaborated upon.
Billet forged by Peter Martin.
Knife forged by Jerry Rados.
Knife ground by Michael Kanter of Adam Michael Knives.
File work by Ron Rosenbaugh.
Knife heat treated by Rob Rossdeutscher.
Rayskin/paracord handle wrap by Tim Horan.
Damascus hand-finished, etched and knife sharpened by Karl B. Andersen.
Hand made on-site glass "Dangle Fob" for knife my Mark Nevling's wife.
Ivory Sheath "Dangle thing" by Mary Rose.
Sheath by - my bad! - I don't have his name!
Anyway, what a knife and what a day!

Karl, Good lookin knife, ya'll did good.
Wish I lived a bit closer, I would have been there.

Is the knife sharp in the photo? Just noticing how it's being held.........

No! We had to get some photos before everyone left and this was taken then. The person holding the knife was the rendezvous promoter Rob Lindquist - "Habber".

It sure was a great time!I'm holding it like that because the resin on the cord was still a bit tacky..I can't say enough about how well everyone worked together on that piece and how impressed myself, and everyone else attending, was.
My thanks to everyone there!

Rob

Man, that sounds like a BLAST Karl!!! :D

Thanks for posting the knife, it turned out great! ESPECIALLY considering your guys' time constraints.

That glass bead thing-a-ma-bob is kick ass! I'd love to see that being made.

Hopefully I can get some more pics up soon..I just want to add that,to me,it was especially impressive considering that there was no design or pre planning.Everyone (or at least most everyone)had to work with tools that weren't their own,not the most ideal conditions, and they basically had to deal with whatever the guy in front of them did.In my mind, that leaves the door open for a lot of problems, but this knife went together smooth and quick,I believe Peter pounded the billet out around 9:45 a.m....and the photo at the top of the thread was probably around 4 or 4:30 p.m.
Everyone involved was ready to help anyone at any point, and I think the knife turned out fantastic..it really looks as if it was a well planned piece,I think it has flow, the pattern works with the blade shape, the handle fits, the filework is just right, the bead matches well, the sheath(pics to come) with the scrimshaw dangler just kick it off!(that scrimshaw really blew me away!)Just a great team effort,by a great group of craftsmen(and women)
Thanks again
Rob

Greetings All

What a blast! I just want to thank everyone who came out to work on the project and all those that came to see, talk, and hang out. There is no way Rob and I could have gotten these shin-digs off the ground the last three years without folks like you. We are already in the planning stages for next year so keep your eyes and ears open for details to come.

P.S. If anyone has a picture of me looking lovingly and at Peter Martins little air hammer, I would like to see it.

I would like to thank both Rob's for putting this event together, and thank the rest of the craftsmen who had a part in creating that beautiful knife and sharing the many years of combined knifemaking knowledge with those who attended. It was a great time with great people.

What a blast this event was!

Thanks again, Rob, for making this happen year after year. I've been to all of them so far, and they just keep getting better. :)

Here's a few more pics that Karl sent me....I have more yet to come, but thought I'd get these up here:
Here's the tent I set up because it was looking like it would be raining,it did rain from about 2:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. but we got lucky after that...made a bit of a mess at the park though...no one seemed to mind the mud:

here's a shot that shows the power hammer Peter Martin brought out(that's Peter with his back to the camera next to Jerry Rados:
