A while ago I had a small meltdown as I really really messed up my Sebenza...or I thought I did. After taking a few days pause I theorized that I had completely removed the factory 20 degree edge and that I was rubbing against 15 degree back bevel. As I was using a Sharpmaker with only the grey stones and white stones I simply could not remove enough metal in a reasonable amount of time to re-cut a new edge. That S30V steel is blame hard. I must have spent an hour with the grey stones and I didn't even make a dent in the blade...my wife thought I had lost my best friend the way I was carrying on!!
My mom (under my guidance) got me the diamond rods for the Sharpmaker for Christmas...I nearly got teary-eyed (not really) when I opened my present! Yes...I am 31 years old but diamond rods...come on!!
So I put in the diamond rods in the 30 degree slot and started sharpening my blade. Man, I tell you my hope soared...in under 15 minutes my Sebenza went from 'spoon dull' to mind blowing, hair splitting sharpness! I progressed from the diamond rods, to the grey stones, to the white stones, and finished off with the ultra fine rods. This was the first time that I successfully split a hair...soooooo happy and had to share you guys!!
Merry Christmas!!
