Hi all,
As some have you might have read somewhere on BF (I think it might have been in one of the Becker snark-threads or maybe even here in the chat-thread), I lost my Ka-bar Dozier some three months ago.
Girlfriend didn't know about it or anything, just couldn't find it. I thought I had lost it on a recent hike, or maybe in the yard somewhere.
Anyway,no time to feel sorry since they're so inexpensive, hence I contacted Dex (coyleoutdoors.com) to see if he could hook me up with one and I just added a bit more steel to the order.
Long story short... yesterday I wanted to wear a specific watch. Couldn't find it anywhere. Asked my girlfriend about it... "Oh yeah, it's in that drawer inside of the living room table...". That's a drawer I never open since she keeps stuff there. What do I find... Yep, the watch, accompagnied by another one of my watches, two Opinels and... you guessed it, my beloved Ka-bar Dozier.
Here's the deceased, who has risen again.

Got home from work today, and guess what was in the mailbox? Yep... the replacement. Talk about timing:thumbup:
Anyway, now I got two, as well as a Zancudo and Rat 1. Yay for new steel! BK11 and Vic farmer are in the pic, just because.

While looking at the Doziers, some small things struck me. Maybe there are some very slight design changes? I noticed the following...
First of all, the jimping is a bit deeper, yet somewhat rounded in the newer version so it's not overly aggressive. Very nice touch if I might say so. Additionally, the font seems to be a bit thicker? (old one on the right)

The bigger jimping can be seen here as well. What I also noticed is that the locking bar is more in line with the scales. My older one had some gaps, not that I cared since it's a formidable tool at around 20 USD, but it just seems to be an improvement? (old one on the right)

Finally, another small change in the font. The letters displaying the country of manufacturing are more visible on the blade in closed position in the newer one (on the left):

I made the choice to add some non Ka-bar knives to the order as you may have seen. I'm not the type of guy to shout around on the interwebs that knife X or Y is the best in its price class, though I have my favourites. I rather seem to be the type of guy that just buys 'em all and tries to enjoy all of 'em, both with their merits as well as their small shortcomings:thumbup:. For the prices these three go for, don't hesitate on either one. The Dozier isn't the quickest opener, but I don't need that in a pocket or backpack tool for hiking. Maybe it's not the sturdiest of the three, but it sure is the lightest in weight. All of 'em are great slicers, but I love the hollow grind on the Dozier, and all of 'em have AUS-8 and are made in Taiwan. Seems like the Taiwaneze (as well as the designers, of course) know what they're doing 'cause I'm impressed by all three of these blades.
A big thumbs up for the Dozier folding hunter though. It's been my go to folder before its disappearance and will remain that for a great while. Since I'm able to enjoy the Dozier goodness in twofold now, I'm a very happy camper
Cheers,
Jerry
small edit: seems like something went wrong with the overview pics...they're kinda blurry and not focused, oh well, you guys get the idea
