I tell ya, life ain't easy for a knife named "Sue".
And, in a related story, life ain't easy for one Nova Scotian knife maker with a wife named "Sue"! :D

This is a clever designed primarily to satisfy Patrice Lemée's appetite for exploring the design boundaries! It combines a bit of Malaysian Parang and Philipino Golok influence with readily available local materials, and a contrasting rough/refined visual. The handle is a single piece of moose antler crown stalk split down the center and shaped. The cracks on the one side are natural and extend only about a 1/16" - 1/32" below the surface. The blade is an old file given to me by an local blacksmith, forged in its entirety from tang to tip.

Please let me know what you think.
Thanks for looking.

Blade: 9 1/8" x approx 1/4" of hand forged old file. Polished forge finish flats, "antiqued" 800 grit etched finish on the bevels showing a wispy natural hamon.

Handle: Weathered Moose antler with Bubinga and ebonized Pear liners and peened 1/8" brass pins, textured brass bolsters, recessed and textured brass butt plate, and a peened tang. The antler has a buffed paste wax finish.

Sheath: Bubinga lined, spalted Maple case with Tung oil and buffed paste wax finish, one piece Ash welt, peened Moose antler collar, textured and peened brass bands, and a premium 6/7 oz veg tanned leather(RJF) belt loop harness.

Superb work. I really like that blade profile and ofcourse the handle and saya are top notch.

Are you using the antler to prevent the leather from sliding off, I couldnt tell if it was attached or not. Great construction as always.

Looks very functional and handsome too!
I spent some time many years ago in Malaysia and got a fast appreciation for the local folks with their Parangs!

Interesting way to build a scabbard. Looks great!

Thanks guys.

Quint - Yes. The antler collar helps to keep the leather harness in place, but I believe it also adds some needed strength to that high-stress point. The harness is not "attached", but is pretty tightly fitted so it doesn't slip when the blade is pulled from the sheath.

Beautiful package. I love all of the design details.

I hope you put your makers mark somewhere. Otherwise 50 years from now someone is going to have a hard time identifying where it came from!

All your details come out nicely.I see a lot care and attention to detail paid off by producing a gorgeous project. A one of a kind work of art.
