I have a suede and leather strop. Currently i am using green compound on the leather side and not sure about the suede side. Which side should i finish the knife on for the best edge? I'm getting into knives and this dang strop has me confused! Help!

After playing with the strop for a little it seems the suede side has left me with a finer edge.. Correct me if i'm wrong...

Could be. ;)

If the suede side is relatively firm and/or thin and used with very light pressure, it could work pretty well to clean up the burrs & tatters of loose steel left after previous sharpening/stropping steps. The 'finer edge' you're seeing off the suede might be evidence of that. Can work well with compound too; I've occasionally used some chamois leather (also very soft/suede-like) with compound, or by itself. I've found that leather like this works very well with plain carbon steel, like 1095, and some simpler stainless steels like 420HC/440A. If used without compound, use it after the green.
