I purchased a Large Vaquero (old model, with no pocket clip) in September 1999. The knife since developed rust on the surface area of the lock (inside the handle) as well as on the blade notch where a lock lug fits into. I have never taken this knife to a salt water environment. I have managed to buff off some of the rust in the blade notch, but been unable to reach the lock inside the handle. Is there any safe way to dismantle the folder completely so that I an buff off all the remaining surface rust inside? Could you please suggest. I have no exprience in knife making whatsoever. I fax the problem to Colsteel a few weeks ago, and still havn't receive any reply.

best regards

This is a tough one. I don't know anything about the knife your talking about, so I don't know how to take it apart. You might try the general discussion forum and see if anyone has modified their knife and knows how to take it apart.
Be very careful how much buffing you do on the lock bar and notch. They rely on very close tolerances in order to provide a solid lock with no blade play and easy opening and closing. If you buff to much, you could round off the edges and cause blade play or lock failure. I wouldn't use a power buffer.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck.
