I need some suggestions for a good EDC folder with my current desires:
1. The wharncliffe style blade.
2. Frame lock.
3. Semi-good quality steel.

I currently carry a Spyerderco Kiwi for sophistcated chores, and I love it, but a bit small for EDC.
My current EDC is a Kershaw Vapor, and it's just OK. I like the framelock, but the steel is like a well aged room temp cheddar.
I like the looks of the Leek, but I'm unsure of the current blade steel offered.
Any suggestions?

I wish I could. I don't know of anything out there in a factory knife. Lone Wolf is coming out with a liner lock that looks good. I think Kershaw has something like you are looking for. The old CRKT Mirage was outstanding even with it's AUS-6 and AUS-8 steel offerings. Try the William Henry wharncliff style. It is more of a liner lock than frame lock though.

The Kiwi is a lockback but a very nice knife albet a bit short in blade length. I have a feather weight A.G. Russell one handed knife that has a semi-Warncliffe style blade that I simply love. They come in ATS-34 and lesser steels depending on your needs. They also have all steel handled versions and some nice models with scales attached. The feather weight is a perfect EDC and very useful for those thousand of little cutting chores that you encounter every day. I think the blade is AUS6 or 8 and have no complaints with the steel for it's intended use.

Kershaw LEEK, 440A blade, frame lock, and assisted opening. A very nice knife.

You should also check out the random Leek, it has a little different blade style but it has s30v steel. There has been some talk of it here on the forums, do a search and see what comes up.

AG Russell has a special Benchmade in a Wharncliffe style. Has G-10 scales, but they dont' extend all the way up the titanium liners so you get a framelock effect out of it.

What Phil Hatch and part of what Hardheart said. The Benchmade 332AGR framelock and the Benchmade 921 Switchback axis lock should suit your needs fine. They're a bit more expensive than the Kershaw Leek for some reason, but they're very stout for stainless blades.

You may even find some wharncliffe slipjoints in non-stainless if you're looking to get the ultimate slicing ability out of that blade shape.

farmboy,

Does this knife that you are looking for HAVE TO BE a folder? If not, there is the Spyderco Ronin that might be just what you are looking for.

What's your budget? I don't really know of many good factory folders with the wharncliffe blade, the Klotzli's are very nice (I really like the "Sailors Knife" and have thought of picking one up), but for a little more money (if any at all) look at custom knives. In the "for sale by makers" forums right now you can find a nice Mammoth Ivory scale with file working on Ti liners and an ATS-34 steel wharncliffe http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=280335
or take a look at A.T. Barr http://www.customknives.com/ he likes the wharncliffe style and does frame locks.

All great replies so far....thanks to you folks.
Leaning towards the Leek s30v or the Klotzli so far......

I really wanted to try to keep it in a very broad $100.00 price range. I would like a folder due to the "sheeple" factor. I gues the framelock isn't as much of a factor as I previously made it out to be, as the Kiwi is neither a frame or a liner lock, and I like it just fine. It's just too small.

Another one I saw once was a Syderco Veihle (sp?), that might work. Are they, or one like it still available?

4 years later is there a framelock wharncliffe made? I started carrying my Kershaw Onion minitask and remember why I stopped carrying it: tip down carry with a sharp thumbstud.

So I still dream for:

*3 to 3.5 inch wharncliffe blade
*titanium frame lock
*Tip up carry
*Hole instead of thumbstud
*Price? After all this time try me, ha ha.

Would a sheepsfoot blade do? I used to own one of these guys:

Seems like it would meet your criteria. Titanium frame-lock, 2.5" blade, 440C steel. Not the highest quality folder I've ever owned (fit-n-finish could be better). But then again, at $125 for a nicely detailed custom folder, I really can't complain.
