I've had for quite a while a Kershaw Ken Onion avalanche partially serrated knife. I'm considering getting something new. So I'm open to suggestions.

I've wanted for quite some time a Benchmade 940 Axis folder with a non serrated blade. Anyone have any opinions on that or something you prefer for your EDC are appreciated.

I'm in the market for a new EDC and have been doing some research, and I can tell you alot of people would reccomend a Kershaw Leek, and virtually any Spiderco out there. Good luck

My BM 940 is one of my favorite pocket knives, but it has its problems.

The blade is thick for EDC, the grind out of the box is a little rough, and the Axis lock becomes a little loose after using the knife. You can tighten the pivot screw, but it becomes really hard, if not impossible, to find the sweet spot again. -You have to compromise between a little side to side bladeplay, or having the blade be slightly stiff to swing out and deploy. The blade shape is kind of peculiar -I would prefer the 943 if I could choose again.

On the up-side, the lock is one of the strongest locks on any pocket knife, the knife only weighs 2.9 OZ with almost 3.5 inches of S30V, and it is really comfortable to carry.

I would also consider the Griptilian, MiniGriptilian, and 710 for Benchmade Axis locks.

Out of curiousity why does the Axis lock differ on the 940 compared to say the griptillian? Isn't it the same mechanism on both?

I have a Spyderco UKPK and absolutely love it. The ergonomics are second to none, the steel is superb, the price is reasonable and the low-riding clip is very nice. It is a slip joint but don't let that deter you. The spring tension is incredibly strong and the finger choil prevents injury upon closing.

If you're still determined to get a locking blade, I'd look into the Caly 3. It has pretty much the same exact ergonomics as the UKPK.

As far as I know they are the same.

Interestingly, I have not heard any problems on the other models, but people have complained about the 940 before. Still the blade play is very slight and does't give anything up to strength.

For the 940 it is not impossible to find the sweet spot, however, it does require very, very small adjustments of the pivot screw.

I'de say go for a ZT  I really like my ZT 0350

I wish you could give mine a try. I have a steady hand and I could't get the sweet spot. It seems its either too loose or too tight.

On my 940 I sometimes leave it slightly tight, then add oil, and work the blade a little and that seems to work.

Kershaw OD1 !

My girl says that I have a "knifemance" with my OD1 , it never leaves my pocket and I play with it while we watch tv! :D Smooth flipper , excellent blade shape, very sturdy , classy looking and well under $50.

...

Try removing the pivot screw and put a dab of blue loc-tite on the threads and give it a few hours to dry. Replace the screw and tighten most of the way until the blade has no play. Then, back off the screw until you get the sweet spot. As you get close, just turn very slightly. It will stay like that for a long time without loosening up. I recommend doing the clip screws at the same time, that will keep them from loosening up also.
