Hello All

I'm not ready to go shopping yet, but I recently sold off my Bark River Canadian Special in order to finance a few other knives. It was a nice knife, but I was afraid to use it because it was just too purty. (I've still got a Fallkniven S1, in case I need a bigger blade.)

So, I got to thinking, I've always liked a plain old Kephart style knife. I Googled it, but didn't easily find a lot of makers.

Who would you recommend. Right now, pretend money is not an object and please to keep the blade under/around 4".

contact david wesner @ kelseycreekknifeworks.com. He made me a Kephart earlier this year that is awesome looking with its' stabilized birdseye maple scales. It's 1/8' thick forged from 1095. my camera isn't acting right so i can't send pix but david has pix of it.

I have a BRKT Kephart that I really like. But if I was going to buy another one of the pattern, I'd go for one of ML Knives' ones. BeartheDog, a knife reviewer and former regular poster in the WS&S section, said that it was the most comfortable handle he's ever used. Plus, it looks gorgeous.

Scott Gossman makes an awesome Kephart knife. I hope he doesn't mind if I post one of his pics:

Hi Chewy1 -

Stomper from JK Knives can make you a Kephart to your specification.

I had mine made with Maple Burl:

I have used my Kephart for everything from food prep in the kitchen to sparking a firestick to cutting small limbs.

Here is a link to the JK site with pricing info.

I've owned the Bark River kephart - it has an extremely comfortable handle.

Then I got a kephart from ML and the comfort of the handle blew me away! Here is my kephart (these are Matt's photos as I have not had time to take my own pics of my knife). Matt is top notch!

JK Knives Kephart. One of the best knives I've used.

He's a knifemaker member here on Bladeforums.

I love my Bark River Kephart but since first production run is done it can be bit hard to find. However Mike Stewart knifeforums told Bark River fans they plan and his own personal wish is to make second run of Full Tang Kephart in CPM 3V if there's enough retailers committing for it.

I've got several from ML, Scott Gossman and Ray Laconico. All are great knives. I have two variations on the size of the original Kephart, from Scott, one being a 4" model called the mini Kephart, and one being the micro Kephart.

Contact Ray Laconico on this forum to see if he will make you one. His work is meticulously clean. Mine would probably fit into your definition of "too purty to use" but you can get micarta scales. Ray hangs out on the maker's forums and W&SS.

Yes, Ray does spotless work. Beautiful execution on knives that really work, and the price is not nearly what he could charge:
