suggest something better for this price (Mike Obenauf ~ MODEL 3) (critique)

Hi guys, For around 550 bucks , is there a better custom or semi custom?
I am talking about Mike Obenauf ~ MODEL 3. Please critique it and tell me if there is a better knife for this price.

You'd have to define what would be "better" to you. Something fancier to keep as a safe queen? Something that would excel at daily hard cutting chores?

Mike Obenauf makes great knives, but what you like and what you're going to use it for need to be considered to determine what could or could not be better than a Dress Model 3 at the price point.

I am talking about an EDC knife that is strong and that would give me best function and utlity from the office to the farm or camp. I am not looking for a safe queen.

How does this knife compare to a sebenza ? There you have it:)

I am torn between the 2.
 
Mike Obenauf makes incredible knives. I own 3, soon to be 4 of them!!
And how do you define better? Ah, a comparison to a Sebbie! It is BETTER than Sebbie! Trust me, get the Obenauf!! Yes, I AM serious!!
 
You're asking for advice on something that is largely subjective. The best advice I can give you is to either handle both and decide which fits you best - or - buy both and resell the one that you like least (if you can bring yourself to do it). The two blades you mentioned should get close to or more than the purchase price on the resale market (if kept mint). A knife is like a pair of work boots - if they don't fit right, you won't wear them.

in that style, consider a custom MAYO TNT. it will cost a bit more but I like his lockup better..... this IS subjective though. A sebbie is not a custom, so I don't like the comparison. But, no one will argue that CR has won best manufactured quality at Blade for several years stright for a GOOD reason.

You will LOVE the Obeanauf!! Mike makes amazing custom knives. And The Cellar is fantastic to do business with. Congrats all around.

I have one Dress Bandit (nr 6 I think). It is a very, very nice knife. Classy but still strong and the Damascus blade is easy to make sharp. You got a great price if you bought the one Knife Cellar had!

I think you made the right choice in ordering this one. Out of everything that is readily available, at least, you won't find a better framelock with a damascus blade in that price range.

I personally prefer the Model 3 Bandit framelock to the Sebenza. It is built just as tough and precise as a Sebenza, but the action is smoother, and the contoured handle fits in most people's hands more comfortably than the flat, blocky Sebenza does. Also, this is secondary to function, but the Bandit is finished much nicer than the Sebenza is.
