I'm looking for an all round outdoor stainless fixed blade along the lines as an alternative option to the new ESEE 4 Stainless in 440C. I know this knife is not out yet, but I am looking for something very similar and was wondering what kind of options there are. I am primarly looking for an all round knife and I know there are compromises, I am leaning more towards a fine knife that can do batoning. Again ESEE 4 is my best example in both use and price only, I am in a humid and wet environment most of the time. A non-stainless but least rust prone knife is also acceptable (if so, what steel?)

So far I am considering the Entrek Javalina as well as an F1. If I had to choose a different length than the ESEE 4 I would prefer smaller over larger. Are there any suggestions or options?

Fallkniven F1 is a nice choice. Great knife which has stood the test of time, and performs. 3.8" blade is still under the 4" max allowable in some states. The VG10 version is pretty affordable, and it cuts very well. Many people consider this to be one of the top survival knives around.

Also possibly consider Bark River Necker 2 in CPM-3V. Not stainless, but pretty stain resistant if you give it just a little care. 3.5" blade, 3.5" handle, 7" overall. Light weight. Available as skeleton or optional micarta scales. Has a convex grind and very sharp. CPM-3V is VERY tough steel. Belt sheath optional if desired. Comes with kydex neck sheath.

Last, but not least. the ever popular Mora knife in stainless(12c27) which always amazes everyone that it can be as tough as anything else out there, and just as sharp too, for such a very low price. The Mora is the world-beater for best value for a super-tough outdoor all-purpose knife. You just have to get over feeling funny about how little it costs, and now "normal and utilitarian" it looks. It will embarrass many more expensive knives. If you go to YouTube and look for Mora batoning videos and torture testing videos, you won't be worrying about batoning it. It's a batoning champ!

The Fox Prohunter is also worth a look. 4 3/4" N690Co blade, 9" OAL, micarta. Good looking knife and it feels great in the hand.

I'd get a Buck 119 Special to tide you over until the new ESEE 4 comes out, won't break the bank either.

My vote would also be a Cold Steel master hunter in San mail III.

I don't like Cold Steel very much but would replace it the very next day if it was lost or stolen.

It has a very comfy rubber handle that allows for a very, very secure purchase and is full flat ground. Great knife for the price, and it can be found well under $100.
