Suggestion: an "inventory page"?

Bill, what if you did a real simple sub-page off of your site listing inventory? It could be linked from your site and posted here, and anybody could do a spot-check on what's there now. You might also consider listing what you expect shortly and what you're taking orders on (special projects like the AK Bowie, 30" Kobra, etc). Put the day's date on it, do it in simple "form style" so you just pump in the numbers even if the number for some or many might be zero for the day, that'll reduce typing.

You may find it increases "impulse buying" - people can glance at that, say "oh WOW he just got a 20" Sirupati" or whatever, call or EMail. For the small amount of extra daily maintenance it might help sales and speed 'em up?

Sounds like a good idea to me.

I sure like pictures and prices. If I can see pix of khukuri, karda and chakma, and sheath, it becomes much easier to make quick decisions and the chance of returning the rig to Uncle Bill becomes much lower.

Granted, it might be a wee bit too much work to post pix of every khukuri. I just hate to buy things sight unseen.

Apparently sales is not the issue right now anyway. And I have no clever ideas about how to increase production other than "hire more kamis" which they probably thought of already.

Just my 2 cents.

It's a good idea, Jim, and I thank you for it but as Dave said right now increasing sales is not top priority. Right now it would be pretty easy to put up an inventory -- almost nothing. For the last couple of years we have been supply side limited and still are but we are trying to correct that.

We are expanding the shop and will hire more kamis. One thing we have never done and will never do is compromise quality for the sake of quantity. Quality has always been our top priority and will remain that way. If we have to wait then we will wait. Sorry but that's what makes HI khukuris what they are.

Bill, I understand. What prompted that was that one post today where somebody wanted to know timescale on a 15" AK and it turned out you had one in stock - a page like that would have eliminated the need to ask. Part of my concern is about your time and effort.

Dave, Bill already has some pretty good pics on his current page. I'm suggesting he not modify that at all, or at least not to add inventory stuff; by setting up the inventory as a dead simple text subpage it becomes easy to modify on a daily or near-daily basis. To put inventory numbers scattered in among the product line pics on his current page would be horrendous to try and maintain.

Jim

Pala and Yangdu maintain the inventory page. I have to ask them to see what we have in stock.

Pala should take over the maintenance of the inventory page on the website. He hates computers and would have to import Devanagari Font plus a translator. I know how to make work and make people happy in their work. I read Bridge on the River Kwai!

Seriously, it is not a bad idea and one we will most likely implement in the future.

For my dime's worth (inflation), I think a basic text inventory page is an excellent idea!

I must be the only one who thinks this inventory page is an aweful idea, think of what such a montrousity will do to the monkey on our backs. I know for one that if I could just browse around and saw oh wow bill has one of the HI bowies just lying around, dont have one of those yet...I'd be a mess, at least the way things currently stand I can rely on brother procrastination to keep me from putting organs up for auctions on ebay in order to pick up some of those poor unsold khukuri's (rare beast they may be), no this would definatly be a bad thing for me at least.

Crow, better than selling your vital organs, which are limited in number, you might want to do as I and a few other forumites do and sell blood plasma and blood, which you can do on a regular basis. And if you double up and sell to two different outfits, you can make even more. And when you experience a drop in your energy level, you just drag out all those khuks that you've been able to buy and get pepped right up! But now you've got me thinkin' -- if I sell plasma, blood, AND a few organs, I could really add to my collection!! Something to think about!

There's got to be a better way than selling blood and body parts. Lance is here working to earn a discount on the couple of khukuris he has just purchased. Pala put him to work cleaning and polishing plus other odd jobs -- 40 cents per hour and all the rice he can eat. Come to Reno. We will find a way!

For the record, my comments in the above post were made in jest. I got to thinkin' that I ought to clarify that because there might be some forumites so desperate for another khuk that they might take me seriously -- and I might be inadvertenly encouraging them to do themselves bodiy harm. As we all know, HIKV sufferers are unpredictable and are not always real rational!

Steven, I'm glad you made that last post. You would be surprised at the lengths some are willing to go to in order to put an HI khukuri under the bed. Especially struggling college students.

My advice is wait for a blem or village model if you are short. Don't start selling body parts or blood!

Bad news.... any vital organs or blood plasma that come out HIKV positive will be rejcted.

Kaka,

Is that basmati rice?? I would be very tempted to take the same offer too..

Arvind

Well Kaka,

It goes to show on the HI forum we keep learning something new. I had initially thought that basmati was native to the entire subcontinent because the Indian stores that we go to here in New Jersey have varieties from India, Pakistan and even Sri Lanka. But I have'nt tried Nepali food yet, but sometime in the future I would love to. What kind of rice and spices are native to Nepal?

Arvind

Bhanis, most people eat manasure rice grown right in Nepal. Pretty hard and tough stuff. Yandgu and I would buy basmati grown in India. Just about the same spices in Nepal as India as far as I could tell. Used a bit differently and in varying amounts.

One thing I missed in Nepal that I could readily find in India was sweets. Kathmandu had some for westerners but once outside the valley it was all over unless you were lucky enough to find an old chocolate bar at some little village pasal.
