Suggestion for a new forum

I would like to suggest that we create a "trademarks" forum to allow our custom knifemakers to post a detailed images of their trademarks. They should also add additional information such as the range of years during which the specific marking was in use, and types of knives that can be found with the particular marking (such as diffrent stamps for small, medium, and large tangs). We have many knife makers and a number of them have used or are using several trademarks. This is an opportunity to use our bandwidth to create a useful research tool for all current and future collectors.

There is no need to open the proposed forum up to discussion. If possible we should lock the thread down after the original post or limit posting access to our knifemakers and factory reps. The goal would be to build a searchable data base, to help collectors identify knives, while making it harder for someone to pass off a forgery as one of your knives.

The Knives Annuals and various magazines have a wealth of information. But, the actual trademarks are seldom shown, nor emphasized, by these publications.

Who would be in favor of building such a database?

I think a forum might be a bit much, but maybe a sticky thread in the custom knife forum would make more sense.

The only problem with a sticky thread is that you can not search it. We can end up with thousands of bits of information and no efficient way to get through it.

Sounds like an interesting idea. Your browser can search a thread (or any web page) -- just hit control-F.

...And how about an Al Mar SERE 2000 forum?.:D.:D.

...Damn, I love that knife!.:).

How about a Kershaw forum for us onion lovers!!!!:)

I really like the idea of having a resource to help identify maker's marks. What I would really like to see is an industry wide resource. What we would get here would be limited to the makers that frequent this forum and have the ability to post pictures of their marks. I do however think that any help in this area for collectors would be a good thing.
