Suggestion for Custom Shop option; thumb grooves.

Playing with my 110 this morning and I was thinking that I would really like one with grooves on the back of the blade so when I choke up on it my thumb would be a bit more secure on the back of the blade.

Would be a nice custom shop option, one that I would glady pay for, would be practical, and shouldn't be too difficult or expensive.

If the custom shop doesn't show interest is there anyone out there that could do it for a fair price?

Thanks!

I called the shop other day and asked about this option.

They said they would have to send it out to Wild Bill and his rate is $75 per 1/2hr. I decided against that path.

Would like to see it become a custom shop option though.

Yes, this would be a nice option. I love to have thumb jimping on the spine of knives.

if you could draw it up, I may be able to help you. Are you just talking about serrations on the back of the blade for a better grip?

Musky...
My thought is that they mean like the spine on an Alpha fixed or 889.
But I've been wrong twice before.

I know what you mean Goose. I was wrong once myself. Yeah, I know it's hard to believe but....a little while back I thought I had made a mistake about something.............then after I stopped and thought about it........I realized that I was wrong....I hadn't made a mistake after all. :p ;)

I wasn't thinking of anything too fancy. Sort of like the grooves on the back of the Hartsook (first page of the Buck site now).

Just something to help keep my finger in place.

I did something like this to a 110,it worked awesome when dressing game.
I used a cut off wheel on my dremel tool, and taped off where i wanted the grooves, marked it with a marker on the tape, then used the cut off wheel to make the grooves. It looked factory, and worked great.Wish i still had it.

I am interested in those blades that have a chipped flint finshed near the spine. Is the Custom shop able to do that on a 110? If not, how do you guys get the chipped flint finish blade?

I think the chipped flint blade was only on that Limited Edition model. I haven't seen it on any others.

Hi Tetsusaiga & ohen,

So far there are two 110's that were made with the spine chipped flint finish. One of them is this years 110LE with 1000 knives to be issued and SMKW special Buff horn handle with 500 knives issued. You should note that there are also 401, 103, and 124's issued with this chipped flint spine finish.

"You guys"??? I'm sure you mean the upper-level custom knifemakers... :p

It is an interesting modification...do they hammer the indentations, or do they grind them???...Must they be annealed first, or can they be "chipped" cold???...

Interesting...Have you sent any emails to the custon knifemakers asking how they do it??? I don't subscribe to any knife magazines, but I would suppose someone in one of them has tried to find out how they do it... :)
