Suggestion for "nice" gentlemans type knife with a 2.5" blade max length

Check out the Lone wolf Paul models with axial lock.

I have one of these and it's a very nice knife. I'd also suggest a William Henry sprite if you're looking for something even nicer.

Or if you're looking for a lower cost option, sypderco has a bunch of models, the Dragonfly comes to mind first.

I usually carry a Moki Glory Arrow that I picked up from Japanese Knife Direct. I also have a few slipjoints from Case and other companies that do a great job.

I am not sure if my suggestion falls under the 2.5" blade, but I carry a Bradley Alias II when dressing up. It is a small nice knife.

I have the Moki Glory, but it is about 1/16" over the length limit.
I also have a Spyderco Kopa and Kiwi that are nice knives, both under 2 1/2".
Take a look at the Moki knives. A number of them are very nice and should fit the bill.

If you can find a Hen & Rooster/A.G. Russell single blade canoe, also known as the .300 Savage Canoe, it is a very nice knife, although at 2 1/8" the blade might be a bit short for you.
The A.G. Russell CM-10 lockback Barlow is another well-made knife that would do the job. FWIW, the CM-10 comes in an extra-fancy version with engraving and a bunch of fancy stuff on the blade, and a plain-jane version. The plain version can be found for well under $100, while the fancy version is anywhere from $135 on up, depending on the serial number.
The Case Swayback Jack (2 blade) or Swayback Gent (1 blade) is another well-made small knife.

Add the AG Russell 3.0 Titanium Lockback. It's elegant in its simplicity, very thin, weighs only an ounce, and is still a very practical knife.

I just got this little case tuxedo. I think it's pretty elegant! Main blade is 2 inches long.

+1 on the Spyderco Kopa, or Kiwi, especially in pearl!

If you are able to consider Protech's little switchblades, you have a nice range of options. Some with bright colored aluminum handles, or get a custom pearl button, or possibly an anodized titanium handle.

As mentioned, A. G. Russell has some nice stuff, notably the new William Henry designed Spires with 3-4 handle choices.
