Suggestion For Serrations

I own several SOG knives, including the Bowie, Seal 2000, Seal Revolver, Seal Pup, Seal Pup Elite, NW Ranger, and Field Pup. I wish those that had serrations had them some place other than the area right in front of the choil. That is the area I use for peeling or notching, as it gives good control and leverage. Serrated edges are useful for cutting rope or other fiberous materials, but bad for peeling potatoes, notching a tent peg, or "skinning" the bark off a stick for a skewer. I would prefer the serrations to be on the back side of the blade. This might be illegal in CA or MA, but would work well for me in GA. Just an idea. The Seal Pup is so little and light, but it would be even more useful if SOG eliminated most of the choil and gave it a longer fine edge. Put the serrations on the back of the blade. I suppose that is why I use the Satin Seal Pup Elite with the fine edge more than the others.

The SOG Pentagon, Mini Pentagon, and the Scuba/Demo are all double edged knives with one edge being a completely straight edge, and the other edge being completely serrated.
You might want to look into one of these knives.

I really was looking for SOG to improve an existing knife. As I said, I have the Seal Pup Elite. The Pentagons look like daggers rather than utility type knives.
The big Scuba/Demo looks like a funtional survival knife. I like it. I could not tell from the pictures if the back side was serrated or a saw back.

Didn't know you liked SOGs, Vic!

I too would prefer the serrations on the spine of my Seal Pup Elite(like the Blackwater Gear/Benchmade fixed blade) where the notches starts to give more cutting edge. :D

Just some wishful thinking!;)

Oh yeah, big SOG fan. IMO they have the prettiest grinds in the industry. I'm not one of those Busse lovers who just owns Busses. SOG has already improved the Seal Pup once, with the Seal Pup Elite. Who is to say they won't further refine it. Do you suppose Spencer ever reads this forum?

I looked around for some pictures, and I found these from an older thread from a few years ago. Hope this helps

Thanks mrskillz. That is one good looking knife. Now I want one! The back appears to be a serrated edge. That is just plain pretty.

The problem I don't consider this an improvement nor will many others of the community. A plain edge version of these knives would be great but not serrations on the spine.

You could even put the serrations on the clip point. Just not where you would do precision work. I know, most combination edges put the serrations right in front of the choil. Right in the way. Are your paring knives serrated? I suspect that many in the "community" never actually use their knives. Just because that is where everybody else puts serrations, that doesn't make it the best place. Anyway, it's no BIG deal. Just a suggestion to consider based on my experience.
