I had a small "problem" today. Upon emptying my pockets, I pulled out a small metal disc with my pocket change. I immediatly knew that it was the thumbdisk for my mini-commader (only 2 weeks old). I did a quick check of my knife to confirm this fact.

I reached in my pocket again and was relieved to find that the tiny screw that holds the disk on, had also fallen off in my pocket. Luckily, I was able to whip-out my Leatherman and fix the problem...this time. I will plan to put some thread-lock on this screw...but I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them?

Mind you, I don't view this as a "flaw" per say...but I am posting this as an FYI to the rest of you. I religiously oil and tuf-cloth my knives...perhaps it was my constant "care" that worked the disk loose... Whatever it's cause, I have never had this happen before and I will be threadlocking that screw to ensure it will not happen again.

It happened with mine too. 2001 #194. I used the blue thread locker and it hasn't moved since. That also happened with my Mach 1.

recently 'cleaned up' my buds '99 commander, sharpened, tightened, etc and the disc was loose as can be, but didnt come off the knife anyway - i put some loctite on it and reintalled w/no probs yet - was suprising to me, my commander disc screw ('00) is tight as can be - go figure.....he said he RARELY used the disc, instead using the wave to wave it open, so i dont know why it woulda come loose..

PS - this is the full size, NOT the mini....

I haven't had any work loose or come off.

I had a thumbdisk on a brand new Mini CQC7 that was "wobbley". Even after tightening it down. It did not seat correctly. I was disappointed that this knife had come out of EKI this way and was worried that it was not the disk at all but the cut-out on the blade that wasn't level. I called them and they sent me a new disk and screw in the mail. I installed the new one and it seats perfectly. No charge.

Thanks for all the replies so far... As I said, I still love this knife..and I am in no way suggesting there is a 'problem' with this piece. After reading your collective comments, I think it worked loose over the weekend. I usually use the wave feature to open it, but this weekend I used the thumbstud several times (with gloves on) to open it. I probably opened it this way about 20 times. Perhaps this + my vigorous 'maitanance' worked it loose.

All things considedred, I'm glad it fell off in my pocket and it is now fixed so it won't happen again. (Maybe the only reason I have not had this problem with my other thumbdisk knives is because I use them so infrequently compared to the Emerson... ;))
