As a brand new member I might not have very much say in this, but, I think we should have a section for lights. Flashlights, candles, sprayers... whatever you call'em, are a good combonation to a blade.
I myself am not very familiar with either blades or lights, but, I do know great technology resides in them both.
A lot of people are interested in LED lights in particular, but with knives and lights (such as Surefires - which, a lot of you alreay own) both having "tactical" arenas, I think we should add at least a thread, if not a chunk of the forum to this market.

What do you guys think?

Negative, sir. We have the Gadgets and Gear section where us not so bright (hehe) people can talk about it. Candlepowerforums.com should handle almost all flashlight discussion.

Ah ha... good. Thank you for the enlightenment on the candlepowerforums page.

Much appreciated,
Cleary

Welcome to Bladeforums! I see people have already told you about Gadgets & Gear and www.candlepowerforums.com but here's one more forum you should know about: BladeForums.com Service and Support is the place to make suggestions.

If it's not too late, I think a forum for flashlights might work out. Gadgets and Gear is appropriate, but covers too much stuff. Every single knife knut I know has a pretty good stash of flashlights as well, so it's much larger than most of the other gear discussed. Flashlights are unique in their popularity among knife collectors, so I think they are the one non-knife thing that deserves as much respect.

Sure there is candlepowerforums, but we get use out of a lot of the smaller forums on this website that you could find in larger size elsewhere. It's convenient to have a single location for all of this.

Why not put up a flashlight forum for a while and see if it doesn't just take off like a rocket?

That's true.

As usual, whenever there's a new forum on a topic that was previously covered by another one, more interest in the subject is created. I witnessed this many times in the past on different forums. Plus there's already a lot of flashlight talk going on.

Maybe we could get Goncz to come back to be the flashlight forum moderator.:D

I fully agree. When I went to candlepowerforums.com, I was kinda turned off, because I'm getting to know you guys a little. I don't really want to devote my time to checking two different forums.
Also, I agree that most knife-knutts, are usually flashlight nerds too like myself.
Does anyone know how to test them? I would like to know exactly what lights produce a greater amount of light while using less battery power. I don't like the one or two hour battery life, it's really a turn-off, especially if you go out in the woods for a walk.

Thanks again...

The 1, 2 and 3 watt lights are all out for you then. They are all a max of about 4 hours, usually less.

Take a look at this low-cost light from Streamlight:
http://www.brightguy.com/detail_int.php?Sku=STR68201

It's not as bright as the fancy ones, but it's bright enough to light your path and the run time on 4 AA batteries is a whopping 155 hours (probably about 15-25 at full brightness, but they don't specify).

And with that we are either due to head over to the gadgets and gear forum or else wait for the flashlight forum to be born. :)

We're BladeForums.com, not Flashlightforums.com

Gadgets & Gear covers the topic and CPF covers it better. I see no need for an additional flashlight forum.
