Any suggestions for an EDC close to this....

3" blade or shorter
drop point

As for the steel AUS 8, or better would be preferred.

I'd like it to have a sheath that sits low and can be clipped on a pocket instead of belt worn. Kydex or leather, either is great.

I know it's pretty wide open....

Hey Basko..

How about a Victorinox paring knife in a kydex sheath ??
A paring knife can be Very useful, is sheeple friendly and cheap enough to easily replace..

Charles May FireAnt! Awesome pocket fixed blade. I have one in D2 with a Scandi grind and love it.

A Fallkniven WM1 (VG-10 steel) with an aftermarket sheath would be another good choice.

Any of the small Bark Rivers.

How much money do you have to spend on this?

For the money you can't go wrong with Bark River and they come with a sheath.

Dozier makes a few that would fit (new $220); on the exchange you can find a used one for less depending on how "used" it is. These come with a sheath that should fit your needs.

And for a lot of money you can find a Busse Active duty on the exchange for about 350.

Or a new Game Warden for 190 from the Busse Company Store. But that is a very hard knife to buy from the store and you may have to go to the exchange for one at about 250.

With Busse you may need to buy a sheath.

Then there is that new Spyderco Perin at about 160.

Great replies.

Hey Eric!! Our strider sheaths are working out great, BTW. I was planning to try something a little beefier than a paring knife, but that is a good idea.

I was hoping for something that sits low in the pocket like this.http://www.grahamknives.com/pocket.jpg

and I do plan to get a graham eventually.

As for the Bark River, are those Belt sheaths with a loop?

I like the Bark River options.

I also like the AG Russell Woodswalker (Aus8) for about $30 with a very nice pocket sheath.

Get a Becker Necker (BK11) if you can find one. Kydex sheath and skeletonized handle carries nice and flat in a pocket and of course can be worn on a belt or as a neck knife if you want. The steel in these is excellent.

I suppose the only real drawback to the BK11 is you won't need to have Eric (Normark) make you a decent Kydex sheath .... though you certainly could if you want. :)

Charles May FireAnt! Awesome pocket fixed blade. I have one in D2 with a Scandi grind and love it.

Charles May makes a real well made knife, tough, sharp and useful. I have two and two more on the way. I carry a scandi Trace in a pocket sheath and it does the job.

ARE the Bark River sheaths equipped with a belt loop or clip?

Bueller?

To my knowledge, most Bark Rivers come with a belt loop sheath. Some of the later models are coming with a Kydex sheath with Tek-Lok made by Sharpshooter Sheath Systems. I have a Bark River Slither with a Sharpshooter sheath. These Slithers are sold by Knife Works only as this particularversion of the Slither was a Knife Works custom.

I would suggest you look at Bark River, like has been suggested. http://www.barkriverknifetool.com/ And if you DO decide on a Barkie, check this place out: http://www.dlttradingcompany.com/index.php?cPath=24&osCsid=e9eac6932186dc70bdd585ebcab87c51 And I would also suggest: http://charlesmayknives.blademakers.com/ And I would suggest a Nemesis Arch Ally: http://www.nemesis-knives.com/arch.html And Charles May: http://charlesmayknives.blademakers.com/ And Gene Ingram: http://geneingramknives.blademakers.com/
