I need a knife for a petite young woman, a left hander or at least with a clip I can switch around for her. Blade 2-3", a good name brand like spyder, CRKT, BM etc... I'm drawing a blank, any help out there?

Spyderco:
Meerkat
Delica Lightweight(now vg-10 steel), tip up
Calypso Jr Lightweight, vg-10, tip down

only ones I can think of off the top of my head in the spydie side of it.

None of those are bad recommendations, particularly the Calypso Jr, but...

My first recommendation would be a Spyderco Native Lightweight (around $50). The Native is a great all-purpose folder with a good grip, a terrific blade shape, and an outstanding blade steel (440V). It is fully ambidextrous, with a reversible clip, lockback, and hole opener.

If you want something a bit more elegant looking, go for a Spyderco Vesuvius with shell inlay (around $75). This is another good general-use folder featuring a versatile blade shape and good quality steel (ATS-34). My wife carried one as her EDC until I recently gave her a custom that displaced it.

Spydercooooooooooooo!
Native, Vesuvius, Delica, Calypso Jr., Salsa, Ladybug, Jester, Meerkat, and a whole buncho other good ones I may have forgotten.
A Benchmade 705 wouldn't be half-bad either.
Also if you swing that way I suppose *shudder* something from the Cold Steel line would be okay too, but I really can't endorse these products.

How special a lady? ;)

Nothing beats a CRK Umfaan or small wood Sebenza. :)

It would be forever. :o

This one has a blade length of about 2.5". It handles everyday chores better than I thought it would. Maker is Tom Mayo, blade is of Stellite 6k and will never rust. Handle is titanium. Very light and slim carry but at $450.00 it is not exactly cheap. Like Rick said, the small Sebenza is an excellent choice. For a production knife I would recommend the Benchmade 705, it has an axis lock and the clip can be mounted on either side. Hawk-$450.00, Sebenza small-$305.00, and 705-$100.00. Good luck!:D ;)

It's out of print now, but if you can find a Kershaw 1500L LH Mini-task it makes a great little pocket folder. The Wharncliffe blade is great for utility use. Cuts like a razor. - Lee

You could get her a Benchmade Mini Griptillian or a 705. Although compared to a Sebenza, it's like taking her to Burger King on a date.

The BM mini Griptillian is ambidextrous for opening, unlocking and cliping and is now coming in black or purple or green. 2 blade styles offer a choice of thumb-hole or thumbstuds.

Thank you for all the excellent suggestions gents. I ended up going for a delica, with the reversable clip. She was thrilled with it, and has carried it every day since in pocket or purse. She called me up ecstatic that she had used her new knife the other day. I asked what she cut with it. She told me she had locked her car keys in the desk at work, and used the knife to jimmy the lock (oy vey!) The blade was undamaged as she was very careful, but I feel a "right tool for the job lecture" coming on. We serve together in the Air Force reserve, and she had seen my various EDC's over the course of the past few months, when she expressed an interest, I surprised her with one of her own. Asked her to carry it daily for one month, and told her she would see it's great utility. Now for a multi-tool.....

Hey, at least she weren't using it as a pry bar and she had been very careful with it.
I think it's time for us to infect more of the ladies with the knive nut bug! ;)
