Just got a Benchmade Apparition, love it! One problem, the thumbstud cannot be switched for left hand carry. Called Benchmade to see what advice they had which was none. I asked if I could send the knife in for a blade with the thumbstud screw taper on the opposite side. They said they currently do not make that type of blade. Anybody have any suggestions for carrying the knife lefty? Thanks

I too am a Left handed dude.
Some years back I forced myself to get used to carrying in my right pocket , opening and 'deploying' with my right hand.
Wasn't easy but living in a right handed world , gotta adjust to it.
I have a few blades that are set for left pocket carry but oddly enough , they feel funny in my left pocket :D

Get a lefty-friendly folder (AXIS lock, dual thumb-studs, or similar) and use this one as a "weak-side" carry

Or trade it for something else here!!!

As a lefty I carry a Spyderco. Nothing exotic, just a Native. If you like Benchmades they do offer some fully ambi knives. If I were going to get another folder to replace it I would get the Native III. YMMV

My CRKT Lightfoot M1 has a flipper (not speed assisted though) that works well in my left hand. It also has dual thumb studs, although they aren't all that accessible due to their position. The flipper makes it a moot point.

The only "difficulty" is closing the knife. I move the liner lock over with my left thubb and start to close it by pushing the spine of the blade on my jeans to get it started. I then close it the rest of the way with my thumb.

Any liner lock with dual thumb studs, flipper or disc should be workable, althoughnot perfect.

as a southpaw myself, i carry righthanded.

i find its alot easier and opens you up to all the options of what knives you can own.

so do yourself a favor and just use and carry rightside.

quit trying to be special:rolleyes:

Lose it and get an ambi knife. Don't let yourself "get used to" right handed knives. No reason you should have to use your off hand. Plenty of other knives in the BM line are fully amibdextrous, and many other makes make ambi knives as well.

theres plenty of reasons why you should learn to use your off hand.
but i do realize the concern of safety. just be more careful until you do get more comfortable with your off hand
and i dont just mean "get used to".

but SMC does have a point. there are plenty of ambi knives. if you REALLY dont see yourself being able to use your off hand, by all means, thats why they make ambi knives. (i also half-way say this in support of the use of your off-hand. righties should also learn how to use thier lefts :) )
