Recommendation? Suggestions for a single-cart metal bench for knife making?

Hello,

I have a small garage where I will have to pull my car in and out each time I want to do some knife making. I was curious if any of you have a single (mobile - with wheels) metal work bench that houses all of your knife making tools. Any harbor freight suggestions would be good.

I was looking at picking up a grizzly grinder, a simple drill press, and a vise. I will be doing stock removal only and send to someone like Peter's for heat treatment.

Thanks

I made my own cart out of 4x4’s and birch plywood. Put wheels on it to roll around garage. Works great. Actually built 2 of them. I forget what they cost me to build but I’m thinking between 60-75

I suggest build a wooden bench/cart. Its easy to build, durable & compared to metal, quiet. Or check out your local material handling supplier. They might have something heavy duty welded construction.
Anything from HF will be flimsy lightweight sheetmetal. Said that, HF has a small ’euro-style woodworkers bench. I think its made of rubber wood.
But, Typical HF quality it will need some beefing up if its going get wheels attached and to see any real use.

I guess it’s done, but I personally want my grinder on something rock solid, not a rolling cart. If I were going to do something the rolls, I would be interested in a hydraulic lift table, which they also have at harbor freight. I often think it would be nice to be able to easily control the height of my grinder.

Ya may not have the room but I have two 8 foot work benches on wheels and do almost all my grinding (99.99999999 percent) outside. I built these benches from Grizzly legs and frame kits and then laminated plywood together for the tops. Went to the local hardware store and got locking wheels for em and have been rocking ever since. Vibration is not an issue for me and often have several machines running at the same time. One workbench for the grinders and another for buffers.

Not a lot of bikinis and palm trees in my part of Cali:

More Stormy Krommers and Carharts. I like working outside. I do a lot of leather work too but only have the one shop. It would be impractical to separate into two shops so I do as much of the dirty work as I can outside. This has worked out for me. Plus heck, the view:

While I would not put my grinder on them I bought two craftsman rolling carts and built tops that sit on them. I store materials and tools inside and have a table top to work on that can move around. They have proven to be handy but I would not put any heavy equipment on them.

If you weld I would make one yourself. Good top from steel plate or C channel. Heavy steel tube for the sides.

Weld or build, I would use casters like that. Rolls when you need it, rock solid when you are done moving it.

If you have a smooth concrete floor, you can also do dead flat metal feet. With a heavy table, it won't move on you, but if you need to push it, no problem and it won't chip your floor. My welding table is constructed that way. I can move it, despite it weighting north of 375 lbs empty, without much effort, even when it is covered in crap.
