Suggestions for a small fixed blade

Hi everyone. So I've been fiddling with my EDC a little bit. I started carrying a Maxpedition Micro EDC pocket pouch in my left pocket, my wallet and keys in the right pocket, and a SAK in the little coin pocket to replace my folder. However, I've found it a little unwieldy. Sometimes you just need something you can get to with one hand, and I also need to free up the coin pocket for a Zippo. Because hey, school started again, I might as well have a smoke on breaks. :D
So, what I'm looking for is a smallish, under 3-inch fixed blade with a kydex sheath that will work for horizontal carry on the belt. It will be used for light to medium EDC tasks, and sometimes some workshop use at school. The price should be around fifty bucks, but I'm willing to part with about a hundred if something really functional pops up.

All thoughts are appreciated. c:

KA-BAR Neck knife, or pretty much any neck knife. Maybe a Boker Plus Gnome.

Why does a neck knife need a fuller?!? :D

There are some customs out there that could fit the bill.

Ive got a Josh Mason custom that is basically exactly what you are looking for but on the upper end of price

Really cool knife Jeff, I'm gonna look into that maker. What car is that btw?

OP: Really small fixed blade look into the CRKT Minimalist. A larger size could be the BK-11 (necker). But I would suggest looking at customs knives. Custom fixed blades could be had for under $100. For example JK knives (here on the forums).

Childress neck knives, craftsmanship at an affordable price. One in the exchange right now.

I second the CRKT Minimalist, cheap and very well executed knife imo, very ergonomic as well.

I would recommend the ESEE candiru. Im currently in Japan and it was the only knife i own that is legal here. The only thing is youd have to pick up a krydex sheath because the sheath it comes with is a nylon velcro piece of crap.

+1 For Josh Mason. He may still have some damascus left, and his prices are very fair! I'm sure it's less expensive to grab a 1095 or 52100 blade of his.

Checking in to also say either an izula or minimalist. Minimalist is great im at my college now wearing mine as i wait for my girlfriend to get out of her art class. Its a great handy knife, but if you prefer 1095 or 440C over 5CR go with the izula. When i get the money I will purchase an izula.

Cant recommend the becker 14 high enough for a bulletproof small fixed blade, I've put mine through hell and it keeps asking for more abuse. It sharpens awesome/scary and easy. And holds it as well as anything Ive come across for all around tasks- some steels might cut open more cardboard but Ive used a brick to drive my 14 through a tree branch and it still peeled hair off of my forearm.
Its a lil thick for some things like kitchen duty or carving, tho. I think the izula is too.
+1 on checking out the custom guys here, maybe ask about getting one made the way you want it- there are some sweet blades that show up for around your top price.

Like the full length handle, exceptionally light weight
A dorky but worthy consideration.
Unfortunately, one has to device a makeshift way to belt carry this dedicated neck carry sheath...
Suggest the blackjack 155 neck knife

Not bad for the price.
But If all fails, go with the current in things

The Bark River Bravo Necker 1 is under 3", under $100, but to get a belt sheath, you either need to buy the leather one, or make your own kydex or leather one. I have the Necker 1 and 2, and really like the 2 a lot. The extra inch (that's what she said) really makes a big difference in usability to me, and the convex grind is really easy to sharpen and maintain.

For cheaper, the Becker BK11 is pretty good, once you strip the coating off (so it won't randomly flake off into your foodstuff or whatever you are cutting) as long as you can maintain a high carbon steel. I convexed mine, and is a close 2nd to my BRKT Necker 2 now.
